That definitely reads as a "conference tournaments don't mean all that much" seeding to me.
I agree and disagree. Illinois was squarely a 4 seed before the B10 tournament. By winning the tournament and by other teams going out early in their tournaments(Duke for example), Illinois benefited by moving up a seed line.

Iowa St played a garbage non-conference schedule. It is fair to penalize them for that

3 years ago everyone thought the big ten was a juggernaut heading into the tournament and 4 days later they all were out….let’s hold off before we assume certain teams are good or. Not good.

You want to know why BYU is such a high net team, because they ran up the score by 50 in their non con home games played at elevation.

I doubt last year the 4/5 seeds with Purdue liked their draw on selection Sunday.

BYU is 17 overall. That's the first 5 seed. So they must have dropped them a seed line to avoid playing on Sunday. Lucky us.

They penalized them for a weak non-conference schedule. That is fair to do. The seeding is based on your full body of work/entire resume from the entire season, not just the Big 12 season
I think they weigh the non conference schedule too much. Feel like how teams are playing at the end is what needs to be looked at. UConn, Iowa st, Auburn and Illinois are playing like top 10 teams.
