I think Shannon's team will pose a simple question: why was Shannon charged for a crime Morris had committed weeks prior and was not charged? Because the excuse that they were investigating Morris for genital rape so they dropped the digital rape (as in fingers), when the victim knew who he was and her friend saw it happen, isn't a great sell.

I bet Douglas county board of supervisors really love having to foot the legal bills to defend this case. I could see the police offering to provide evidence against the DA in exchange for getting dropped from the case. However if TSJ goal is make both parties pay for their abuse of power then he has a case against both of them. Maybe Douglas county will settle for couple million dollars and an apology.

I think it's a calculated risk though as this DA seems like the type of person to be so self-righteous that she'd actually be stupid enough to put extremely prejudicial and case compromising thoughts in writing because she believes she's Lady Justice.

Had TSJs lawyers not also gone after the police in this case though, I thought there also might have been a possibility that some of the cops might've flipped saying that they were pressured by the DA to make a case against TSJ despite them repeatedly telling her that there was no evidence to support that and they didn't believe he committed the crime.

Or maybe something like "This ethics case is killing my chances of reelection, do we have any case that can get me off the front page?" "No? But I don't care if we can make it stick or not. Just get me of the front page."

That was my assertion from the moment I read the affidavit. She was in deep doo-doo with the misconduct, so she was looking for a big name to take the focus off of her.

In my opinion, this is the most plausible and likely scenario if there actually is a case.

The DA’s office would be wise to pay TSJ and his lawyers to settle this out of court as quick as they can.

Can you imagine literally thousands of pieces of evidence in the form of emotional distress tweets, news articles, staff interviews, friends, teammates, etc. that would prove beyond a doubt what he had to deal with?

Let alone the precedent of allowing his mock draft stock take a dive.

I’m no expert, but the overwhelming evidence on his behalf would seem insurmountable on for the DA’s office.

That was pretty bad, seeing those smug, holier than thou faces and hearing their lame chants. IANAL but maybe a class action suit for Illini fans for pain and suffering?

If I'm guessing, the really high amount in the suit is designed to get an out-of-court settlement (gee, where have we heard that one before?).

I'm not sure what Douglas County's max liability insurance payout amount is, but if I'm the county I'm seeing how much that is and figuring out how to negotiate for an amount close to that max payout amount.

Perhaps, but in the grand scheme of things $11.5m . I think the $11.5m is what they believe they can show as damages. The most impactful of which would be losing out on All American status (in my mind). He was cleared prior to the draft, so I’m I think that would be extraordinarily hard for the lawyers to push aside unless they have teams that have told them TSJ stayed off their draft board because of the incident.

I hate it for the people of Lawrence who’s only crimes are likely living there and being KU fans. But I hope TSJ doesn’t settle and gets as much of the truth out into the open.
