Ha yeah I know.... though am having trouble reconciling the notion of a video depicting someone (or anything, for that matter) "off-camera".
I presume that means someone who looked like TSJ was in the frame at some point close in time, then exited the frame in the direction of the alleged incident and/or the reverse (was off-camera, then entered the frame after the incident).

IANAL, so I'm not sure what level of detail is expected in such a document.

This perfectly summarizes why some of us are so annoyed by some people lecturing us about the seriousness of the charge or that Illinois is a respected academic institution or that sexual assault victims didn’t receive justice 20 years ago … I’m not running for office! I’m not assembling a platform! I don’t care about anything but the facts in this case that we have available and whether or not they seem like enough to accuse TJ of such a serious offense. Personally, I think everyone here knows deep down that they do NOT seem like enough. And I’d wager some are doing some serious mental gymnastics and word salad just to painstakingly appear in a certain light on the *issue of sexual assault* or something, leading to condescending accusations that we are like “looking at this through O&B glasses.” 🙄

Each case is different. And so far, this case stinks to high Heaven. And nobody should be talked down to for coming to that (rather obvious IMO) conclusion here.
Yeah but some peoples virtue must be signaled. Won’t anybody think of their needs?

Here is the Notice of Removal that was filed. It includes Hobson's Verified Statement and the Lawrence PD's Investigative Reports re: the surveillance video, cell phone imaging, and statements of the accuser and her friend.

Per the Federal Court docket, U of I's response to the Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order is not due until 1/23/24, which is the standard time for a response to a motion. TSJ would probably then have 7 days to file a reply.
That's my birthday, would be a great present and all I want

This is why some of us are annoyed that anyone can think they have a crystal clear picture that this is all a fabricated event that never happened. You can’t know that. Do people sometimes make up false claims for some revenge or profit. Sure they do. But seemingly good people do bad things too. I have no problem with people saying he should be playing while this plays out, I don’t agree with that, but understand it.

Again, if there was overwhelming evidence that he didn’t do this we would be seeing that by now. It’s going to be his word against her word most likely.

If he wants to try and get back to playing basketball with the TRO that’s great but it’s not going to make this all magically disappear.

Item 14 in the affidavit from detective Josh Leitner says "The video also showed a person identical to Shannon off camera in the same area where <victim's name redacted> was off camera."

If it were as obvious as TSJ being on the trip home at the time the incident occurred, I'm sure that would be a major point of emphasis from TSJ's attorneys. Perhaps Hobson meant they left at 4:30am, or was mistaken about the time of arrival.
"We ended up returning to Champaign from Lawrence the morning of September 9, around 4:30 a.m." Seems like he could mean they left Lawrence at 4:30am."

Otherwise I'd think TSJ attorney's would be using this.

And yet, despite my best efforts to be impartial, I still want to know whether TSJ is "good" or "bad". I want to know if he "did it" or not. I want concrete information to tell me whether to root for him unequivocally or to write him off entirely. I'm not proud of this inclination, but at our core, morality and the desire to be one of the "good guys" is really what drives us all, and this is no more than an expression of that desire. The fact that I regard almost everyone in the world as striving for good within their own worldview, though I hold that at the core of my identity, helps only a little.
Great post and thanks.

Only place I'd quibble is the above paragraph. Morality and conscience and goodness are all relatively recent developments in human history. Further those developments are much easier in a society or group that is well-off and has most of their wants and needs fulfilled. In other words, the luxury to be nice and moral.

I think the base human desire is to survive and be a winner, more so than a good guy. In this way, I am pulling for TSJ in all aspects.

I don't know if this woman is lying, but I want her to be.
I don't know if the DA is crooked, but I want her to be.
I don't know if TSJ is innocent, but I want him to be.

It's no different than if this was happening to my brother. I'd want to believe him until proven guilty. And yes if this were happening to Hunter D. then I'd probably feel the opposite.

None of the above means I condone any bad behavior. I don't want any person assaulted, in any way. But when it happens, and there are so many unknowns, I am naturally going to side with my family, my team, my group first.

Honestly curious…what does the University do if the injunction forcing them to not suspend him without due process is upheld? Also never heard of this…does it happen often (ever)?

I am not a lawyer but will be deposed this week, on a stupid civil suit not involving me.

ignoring the TRO entirely, he is still scheduled to appear next thursday.

does anyone have any idea what to expect from this? not in terms of the outcome but in terms of what is happening with the case during that appearance
Probably no more than arraignment and scheduling the preliminary hearing. Prosecutors generally don't tender pretrial discovery (police reports, witness statements, Bruton material, list of witnesses, etc) until after the prelim, although defense counsel can expedite that thru a subpoena duces tecum.

so since i now know that the case won't resolve until at least 90 days after next thursday, there are three possible outcomes

1. shannon is not granted the TRO

2. shannon is granted the TRO, so it falls to underwood to end his season. he does this.

3. shannon is granted the TRO and underwood plays him as though nothing happened.

i don't know how #2 would go, but #3 puts you at risk of a steve alford situation. i do not want to do that. the season's results would feel kinda gross until the case is worked out.

I took that as he (or someone who looks like him) was seen on camera in that area at some point immediately prior to or after the time of the alleged incident, but was off camera at the time of the alleged incident.

Though that is admittedly an assumption, and we all know what happens when you assume. But that's the explanation that makes the most sense to me.

“No amount of time, in all likelihood, will reveal what really happened in that bar on that day at that hour”

So the security cam showing them at the time wouldn’t do it for you? What if the camera shows they never interacted, as TSJ filing alleges?
No that would do it for me. Still think it was fantastic post though since we don't know exactly what is shown or not shown on the camera.

I personally don't think TSJ is guilty based on what has come out. However, I am open to the possibility that he is actually guilty, since there is still a lot unknown.

I would be shocked if #2 happens. Brad isn't just gonna override the court.

This is such a rollercoaster one moment you are hopeful the next you get beat down. I mean it looks like all the evidence is out there and unless they have some smoking gun (DNA on her southern regions) I don't see how there is not reasonable doubt. I mean he has a girl on one arm who can say that nothing of the sort happen, The Grad assistant, the KU players. A supposedly ridiculously crowded bar who supposedly was penetrated from behind. I get she says that it couldn't have happened by someone behind her but it is possible. End of the day did he do it, I mean drinking has a tendency to lower inhibitions so sure. Can it be proven beyond a reasonable doubt I don't see any way to that unless they have something BIG that hasn't been released. Terrence needs to play and the liberals at U of I need to recognize they are ruining a man's life but also a this fan who desperately wants them to win the National Championship and that can only be done with our All American Terrence TJ Shannon JR
