I don't think that is likely. People seem to forget that his is not simply an accusation. Normal people cannot just conjure up an arrest against basketball players they don't like.If the restraining order fails does that create precedent to destroy teams using criminal accusations knowing that “code of conduct” policies always error on the side of “zero tolerance.”
The rabbit hole that would create has the potential to really do horrible things to people and teams.
But he was accused of something awful off camera with no evidence.I would put it this way:
"It puts EVERYONE at the mercy of every DA and prosecutor in the entire world. That is wrong."
Colin's uncle was a U.S. Congressman while we were undergrads in the mid-80s. We were also in the same fraternity. Yet I remain not a lawyer (not using the acronym). Some have commented on Judge Colin Bruce recusing himself. It is not uncommon for Judges to recuse themselves due to what may be perceived as potential conflicts of interest. Here, Judge Bruce is a U of I grad (undergrad and law), and I believe his brother is a former U of I Trustee.
Magistrate Judge Eric Long has also now recused himself.
Even if Gregory Peck himself was appearing, do NOT go to Iowa city!Or the play. We are seeing Richard Thomas (John Boy) as Atticus Finch the weekend of Jan. 19-21 in Iowa City. (ugh)
I would really like to be a jerk but it's not worth my time and it's just petty to be vindictive.I am a lawyer, and this reminds me of a truism our older namesake partner once told me when I was a young associate - that fairly often, the worst lawyer in the courtroom is the judge.
True - but the University owes me nothing. They owe their S/A, at the very least, fairness. Plus TSJ, as other Illinois S/A, have a lot more to lose than I would.I would put it this way:
"It puts EVERYONE at the mercy of every DA and prosecutor in the entire world. That is wrong."
Sounds like the KS DA has experience there.Fortunately no one has hired Dewey Cheatum and Howe in this matter
What policy do you want in place for the schoolboard and teachers. How about the hospital for their medical staff. This notion that nobody should suffer any adverse consequences when charged with a felony is ridiculous. There is no perfect system. People are flawed. It puts their student athletes at the mercy of every DA and prosecutor in the entire world. That is wrong - I've said that from day 1. It's why the policy is garbage.
How everyone can't see this as obvious is mindboggling.
I must have missed when TSJ was convicted of rape. You seem to be making a couple of huge assumptions here. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.I don't think that is likely. People seem to forget that his is not simply an accusation. Normal people cannot just conjure up an arrest against basketball players they don't like.
Former Reds pitcher Homer Bailey......and he gave up a lot of HR's , but did pitch a no-hitter and also K'ed a lot of batters......Former MLB relief pitcher Grant Balfour.
In aviation parlance, if you can't fly you go to the FAA.I am a lawyer, and this reminds me of a truism our older namesake partner once told me when I was a young associate - that fairly often, the worst lawyer in the courtroom is the judge.
Do people think Illinois was just gonna lay down and say “you know what you’re right, our policy is stupid!” They had to defend it, TSJ lawyers knew this, and i doubt them moving it to federal court surprised them either. Did the NCAA lay down when a TRO was filed against them for the two time transfer rules? I have no idea why people’s confidence has changed just because UIUC is defending its own policy.Between LPD, the DA and UIUC pride I do not have a good feeling anymore about him coming back this year. Hopefully I’m wrong.
This is a peak Illinois loyalty comment lol.Anyone know if the hearing will be available to watch live via live stream.
When I had kidney stones I was referred to a Dr Hatchet. Urologist in Marion Illinois. You're not going to be able to top this: In Austin, Texas, (where I lived for 6 years) there is a noted urologist named Richard "Dick" Chopp who, according to his LinkedIn profile, "is well known in the Austin community for performing Vasectomies." Look it up.
This is a peak Illinois loyalty comment lol.
It's on Zoom. I believe there is a code on the document but I'm not sure what it is and also not sure that it is open to everybody.Anyone know if the hearing will be available to watch live via live stream.
If Judge Lawless and her dad are on the bench and she reaches her hand over the "TRO approved" hat then grabs the "TRO denied" hat, while her father leans back and hides his smirk, I'm gonna be pissed. This is a peak Illinois loyalty comment lol.
Might be able to stream it on BTN+Anyone know if the hearing will be available to watch live via live stream.
