What, no Downton Abbey mentions?

Currently never miss:
True Detective
Grimm
Boardwalk
Person of Interest
GoT
Sherlock BBC (actually, any Masterpiece)

Northern Exposure is probably my all time favorite.

Another Grimm fan! I'm glad there are more than just me, I love this show. Unique spin on the procedural detective show.

A lot of the old X-Files shows are available and are great. They tell a linear story threaded loosely over several seasons but generally each is also stand alone. A similar genre and story telling method is used in Fringe. The first season or two is good. I haven't watched beyond that though.

Ah yes, X-Files was one of my faves. Being a bit of a Sci-Fi fan how did I not remember that one? I have seen a few of the Fringe episodes but not in sequence to get a feel for how they play out. I do have the first few seasons of Alias and the complete Roswell and Firefly on DVD. Can anyone tell me if they are worth my time?

I really liked Fringe, especially the early seasons. Much like X-Files they got away from the stand alone episodes that made it fun.

So. How many people binge watch these shows? I have to confess that I watched 20 episodes of the Walking Dead one weekend. I watched Friday Night Lights in about a month. That's a season a week. It'll sound absurd after hearing that but I don't watch a lot of TV. I guess when I do, I really do. Somehow watching these series that tell a longitudinal story all at once is so much more satisfying than watching them once a week and missing an occasional episode.

I simply love DVD's and Netflix for that purpose.

I'm the same. I watched every season of parks and rec in about 10 days. Best thing about Netflix is that the commercials are stripped out so you can sail through episodes quickly.

Anything that gives the viewer more control is a good thing. It's great to have options.

Would anybody be interested in a "The Walking Dead Discussion [CONTAINS SPOILERS]" thread? Just throwing it out there.

I don't watch Walking Dead unfortunately, but I will say I'd be extremely interested in such a thread for True Detective or Game of Thrones

Me too. I don't have the attention span to wait a week to see what happens next. Additionally, I refuse to invest time in a show until it has received enough praise and viewers that I know it will not be cancelled after 12 episodes. That by default puts me on Netflix where I can behave like an addict.

I had a lot of time on my hands for 30 years equating into a lot of t.v. watching. I've cut back drastically since my son has been born along with hardly ever watching movies(which I loved .to do), but with DVR its easy to watch 3-4 programs every couple of days when the wife and kid are sleeping. I'm usually multi tasking with IL opened up on the Laptop.

Shows I can't miss right now are: UofI hoops(the rest of college ball has taking a backseat for the most part), Justified, Last man Standing, Modern Family, The Mindy project, Gold Rush/Bering Sea, America Unearthered with Scott Metzler.

The wife and I watch Modern family, Shark tank, and Person of Interest together.

Anyone watch Brooklyn nine nine? I've heard it is very funny, and agree with the couple episodes I've watched.

Firefly is great and has a pretty large cult following for only lasting one season (13 episodes I think). Nice mix of western and science fiction elements. Also, the movie Serenity is a followup to the end of the series - all the same characters, same story arc, just allowed to wrap things up a bit after Fox canceled.

I strongly recommend popping that in on a boring Saturday afternoon. Plus, Nathan Fillion (now leading Castle) is fantastic.

I've seen a few episodes. It's watchable and has some humor but, for me, the characters are too cartoonish and unrealistic. That said, it has the potential to mature and get better.

I've read up to book 4 of GoT and I only just started watching the show, but I'm almost done with season 1. So far I like it. It's annoying that Season 3 only went halfway through book 3 and season 4 will contain parts of both books 3 and 4. I would imagine season 5 will contain parts of books 4 and 5 since they occur at the same time.

Started watching House of Cards last night. I'm very impressed with Kevin Spacey, playing the role perfectly.

I can see DC actual like it's portrayed in the show.

Cool, I'll have to find the movie and do that. Appreciate the feedback.

At the pace Martin writes they'll have to diverge from the books fairly soon. It's fabulous TV though. I think a lot of these shows blur the lines between good and bad with each character being a mix of both qualities. It's only in fairy tales that people are all good or all bad and we naturally prefer to see that realism expressed on the screen. It's gritty.

I watched every episode of Lost in under a month.

I'm planning to do that w/ Breaking Bad. 90% of the way through season 2 right now.

I did that with BB. Watched every episode in 25 days.

Did that a couple years back myself. Got really sucked in. Hated the ending though.

I've never watched GoT. People rave about it. Every time someone mentions it I think of the South Park skit on it. That cracked me up.

Guess I should have added South Park to my list too. :D

Same here. Seasons 1-3 got me hooked! Then they did laps and created meaningless story lines just to fill out seasons (Much like the last villain in Dexter. Did anybody really care?). Which of course was concluded with Lost's lackluster finale...

Didn't mind the finale. But yes, I loved the first few seasons more than the last few.

I finished House of Cards in under 24 hours.

Think i'm going to start Bates Motel next. Has anyone watched it?
