What channel and nights?

Sundance Channel, no clue. I'm blessed by a great library (which, in turn, belongs to a library collective), which is where I get a lot of material, especially the more obscure stuff. Definitely worth a shot if you can access it.

Three Sundance Channel shows made a lot of critics Top 10 lists: Rectify, The Returned & Top of the Lake. Rectify is extremely well done, IMO. Type of show where it sucks to finish the last episode, 'cause you know you're gonna have a long wait to the next one. Haven't seen Top of the Lake yet.

By request, here's a follow up on "library collective" from my previous post. It's not an on-line thing. Simply a group of (bricks-and-mortar) libraries that make their collections available to all patrons of member libraries. My library had been a member of SWAN, but switched to Linked-In last year. Even if your local library is outstanding, it's not going to have everything you want. That's where the collective comes in. But, yes, there's a price to pay for access to a good library. I'm sure I'm over $500/yr. (property tax) by now.

For those that were curious, season 6 of Mad Men will be streaming on Netflix starting March 30th. That gives you about 2 weeks before season 7 airs on AMC April 13th.

Just caught the Bosch pilot (an Amazon production). Thought it was very good (disclaimer: I'm a big Connelly/Bosch fan). Also, Connelly is one of the screenwriters, which means a lot IMO. Evidently, Amazon has greenlit the series (along w/3 other productions).

The entries of Amazon & Netflix into original programming is great news: more quality shows.

I loved the ending.

Eh, I dunno. It depends entirely on how much stock you put in the central conceit of the show. If you really cared about how Ted met the kid's mother, then this was essentially a long con. If you viewed that as a bonus feature to a show that was really about moving through your 20s into your 30s, then it's probably a bit more palatable. I'm torn.

Well put. I don't want to give any spoilers either, but this is probably the least satisfying ending (proper ending, that is) to a sitcom that I can remember. Newhart did it the best, M*A*S*H and Cheers were right up there, but this one was just scattered. If it was trying to be Meta (like Seinfeld) it was trying too hard and didn't hit the right notes, and if it was trying to be subversive it was too cliched.

Most of the well-done finales were about moving on from the situation surrounding the series. This one...well, I won't spoil it for anyone.

I never saw the mother show but the discussion about endings and Newhart reminded me of the fake Breaking Bad ending. Walter White wakes up in bed with Lois (from Malcom in the Middle) and complainis about a nightmare he had as a meth cooker. I'm sure its on utube or somewhere and worth the search.

Slight potential spoiler ahead with continued reading:

I'm torn because Robin morphed into a unlikable shell of her awesome season 1-3 self during the tail-end of the show's running. Plus the mother is much cooler by comparison.

(Obligatory "just my opinion" clarification.)

Thanks for not spoiling the ending. We are a few weeks behind here in the UK so we haven't seen the ending yet.

Actually, I read about the ending online but haven't seen it. I like the way it sounds.

In my opinion, the last two seasons of HIMYM were terrible. I was hanging on to it just to see how it ended, and the ending fell about in line with the rest of the recent episodes. Bad.

Any other Letterman fans in Illiniland? I got hooked on his short lived morning show when I was injured and off work for a week in the early 80's . Late Night on NBC coincided with affordable VCR's and I've been recording and watching since. None of the other night talk shows amuse me and when he retires my TV viewing will be reduced to Illini games and an occasional TV series like Justified, Deadwood or the Sopranos.

I've always liked Letterman, but I rarely watch him these days. I have never seen either of the Jimmy's.

I watch almost all my TV on demand these days unless it is sports. Of the newer shows, I like Elementary the best. I liked Person of Interest, but the storys seem to be getting a little wacked out.

Fargo (FX) debuts April 15th. If the writing is in the same ballpark as the cast, it should be a very good show.

They have been advertising that during Justified (I think its the same time slot) and the ads have me willing to give it a shot. The movie was terrific, but I hope they don't overdue talking "minnesotan, ya you know" in the TV show.

Two things:

-The Letterman retirement: It'll be interesting to see what CBS does with this time slot. My guess is that it'll become "The Late Show With Conan O'Brien"

-I also see that Heroes is coming out again on NBC. I loved the first season of that show and then it went pretty much downhill after that. Interested to see how that turns out.
NOTE: I'm really not a 'regular' viewer of any TV show ever since that first season of Heroes.

Californication and Mad Men returned tonight. Without spoilers, I will say that I was pleased with both premieres.

May I just say that I was quite pleased after watching Game of Thrones last evening. I'm so happy.
