What were the final odds for that parlay (don't feel like doing the math)?

I am sure you laid down $1,000 on that parlay 😉

Looking at the first week games in the Big Ten and not counting BT teams playing each other did we play the best team of the bunch.

I don't know if I want to live in a world where Duke is also good at football.

When is Elon's Mars Mission again?

Duke has made plays/take advantage of Clemson mistakes. 2 block fg 2 fumble recovery one being on the goal line. Clemson should be winning but are down

Need some help here. They just called a late hit on Duke on 4th down, but still gave the ball to Duke saying the Clemson QB was down before.the hit, hence a change of posession. That doesn't seem right.

I mean, that is one of the biggest hose jobs I've seen.

On second thought....if the QB had done what he should have....dive for the first down.....it wouldn't be an issue. They get the first down plus 15.
So really it's on their QB. You can't slide short on 4th down dum dum.

Roughing the passer typically doesn't occur after the ball has hit the ground. By rule it's a live ball foul. A dead ball hit on the quarterback would be unnecessary roughness, and subject to the same rule as the play in question tonight.
How is it, in all my years of watching football (42 years) I’ve never seen a dead ball foul on fourth down that’s resulted in a turnover on downs and the penalty being enforced after the change of possession? While I can’t recall any particular play off the top of my head, it always seems like the team that had the ball gets to keep the ball. That call tonight was a first for me.

Any time a player slides it is a dead ball. Likewise if the ball would be incomplete or a runner runs out of bounds or whistle blows it would be dead

However on the late hit outbounds I have seen a first down be awarded if the runner was short of the line of gain on 4th down

The rule book should allow flexibility in these instances. The hit occurred during the conduct of the play and should be considered a live ball penalty. I think refs normally give the first down based on games I have seen

Looking at rules closer if you go by what is written the refs got it right because the slide made it a dead ball therefore change of possession

Roughing the qb can be a dead ball if the ball is ruled incomplete or whistle blows first then the hit occurs. I agree rare but could happen

I’m right there with you.

It must be just that it’s super rare for the play to be dead before a penalty.

One, it has to be 4th down so that the dead ball would technically be an immediate change of possession.

Two, there would have to be an offensive player holding the ball, running to gain a first down. Since most 4th downs are punts or field goals, we don’t get as many chances to see this particular scenario.

And finally, even if we check the first two boxes (QB sneaks, 4th and 1 plays…etc) the rare part would be the penalty AFTER the runner has gone down or stepped out of bounds.

It must be that when we see these back breaking penalties that keep drives alive, they are either on 3rd down or before the runner is down on 4th down.

Now I will say, one situation that I FEEL I’ve seen before (but can’t remember the game/team) is our player getting an unnecessary roughness on 4th down for tackling/pushing a guy that was already being tackled out of bounds. Which means the penalty should have been assessed after the change of possession. Instead the drive was extended.

I swear it was on 4th down but maybe it was third and/or the unnecessary roughness part of the contact was before the player was OOB. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ahhhh, very good point. Def a situation that requires more review.
