Week 1 Games

I’m right there with you.

It must be just that it’s super rare for the play to be dead before a penalty.

One, it has to be 4th down so that the dead ball would technically be an immediate change of possession.

Two, there would have to be an offensive player holding the ball, running to gain a first down. Since most 4th downs are punts or field goals, we don’t get as many chances to see this particular scenario.

And finally, even if we check the first two boxes (QB sneaks, 4th and 1 plays…etc) the rare part would be the penalty AFTER the runner has gone down or stepped out of bounds.

It must be that when we see these back breaking penalties that keep drives alive, they are either on 3rd down or before the runner is down on 4th down.

Now I will say, one situation that I FEEL I’ve seen before (but can’t remember the game/team) is our player getting an unnecessary roughness on 4th down for tackling/pushing a guy that was already being tackled out of bounds. Which means the penalty should have been assessed after the change of possession. Instead the drive was extended.

I swear it was on 4th down but maybe it was third and/or the unnecessary roughness part of the contact was before the player was OOB. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
All good points. It was just such an unusual ruling, but Clemson didn’t appear to dispute it — during or after the game.

I guess the lesson here for Illinois is… if you’re going to taunt a player after making a big stop, be sure you do it on 4th down, not third.

If anybody needs it reinforced that it is your TV spot (channel AND time) that determines your ratings rather than strictly how many fans you have...

2.68 million viewers for Northwestern at Rutgers (11:00 am on CBS - Sunday)
2.46 million viewers for Virginia vs. Tennessee in Nashville (11:00 am on ABC)
1.56 million viewers for Tennessee State at Notre Dame (2:30 pm on NBC)

And that's even a bad rating for CBS ... Ohio State/Indiana drew 4.65 million, and Oregon State/San Jose State (two teams with small fan bases) drew 3.23 million!! Granted, NU/RU was the only game on Sunday, but ... yeah, we want to get ourselves on CBS! Highest BTN rating was 343k, and highest FS1 rating was 1.06 million. Highest ESPNU rating (a channel that TANKED our average last year when we had to play Virginia there) was literally 88k...

Also ... the Deion hype is real!! Colorado/TCU got over DOUBLE the rating that West Virginia/Penn State got in prime time (7.26 million vs. 3.50 million).

For the rest of the season at the very least... teams playing against Colorado will have to spend some time making sure their players don't get caught up in the media buzzsaw that will be following Colorado around.

Kinda happy to see him start off strong though tbh. Better than the stick in the mud coaches you usually get(so long as he doesn't do anything wrong of course).

I really like Deion now . I thought he was all about himself before , but now I believe he is sincere . Best wishes to him and his team .

would love to see him make that program real good and see him stay there .

i wonder how long in todays age his player who is playing 110 snaps a game on O & D can keep that up . that’s a bigger lift than what Ohtani is doing
