Of course we put Kansas on the schedule when they are the worst team in college football and when we finally play them they are going to be an 8 or 9 win team. OF COURSE this is our luck…

This post (not meant to be rip on you) illustrates beautifully how the football and basketball programs are in different places. Basketball, we’re excited about the tough noncon tests. Football, it’s bad luck that future opponent might not be as bad we thought. Can’t wait until more basketball thinking pervades football thinking at Illinois.

Part of that is based on the basketball teams skill.

Part of that is the way each sport is set up.

Basketball plays more games, so one loss to a top tier team doesn’t hurt much.

On the other hand, because of NCAA tournament seeding, a win against a top tier team can help a lot.

Football is different. You only play 12 games, so a non-con loss can hurt you, even if it’s to a good team. And a win over a good team isn’t all that different when it comes to bowl games than a win over a bad team, until you start talking top tier bowls.

So it’ll be a minute until we have the same “we’ll plan anyone anywhere” as a football fan base.

Actually, I think Grimace would be a pretty bad *ss mascot. Change out the fries for a picture of the other teams mascot and youre set
Winnie the Pooh copyright has ended…can use a character from there. The Illinois fighting Poohs!
