It isn't even close, in my opinion. In fact, I think Hummel is the heir apparent for the major national coverage options if that's what he chooses to do. The only thing that may hold him back is he doesn't have a schtick like the big-name guys like Raftery and Bilas have. Hummel just analyzes the game, and the major networks probably won't like that he doesn't create a bunch of narratives and viral social media moments.

(OK, that last line was probably me yelling at a few clouds. But that kind of stuff does get old pretty quickly.)
I don't think there's any further peak for Hummel to reach if he wants to stay with calling college basketball. I guess getting on a higher crew during March Madness (he was on crew #7 according to Wikipedia).

I mean Grant Hill is a fixture of the lead March Madness commentary crew, and I don't think he fits the "viral social media moments" critique at all. I think Hummel fits into the same mold, which is to say there is absolutely a place for him in major national broadcasts.

Nebby all over Creighton 26-13 with 5 minutes left in the 1st half. Kalkbrenner only 1 shot attempt and it was a three. Creighton shooting 23%

Vols are putting the beat down on Baylor. 44-20 at the half. Lanier has 7 - 3’s so far. Their team normally doesn’t have this kind of offense but the team D is suffocating.

Watching UCLA and Cal Fullerton and Don MacLean is the color guy. Must be weird for him to refer to UCLA as Big 10 team. He did Pac 12 games for years and, of course, is UCLA alum. Too bad we never got to hear Bill Walton do a UCLA B1G. Not sure he could have stuck to the company line.

As I typed that, former Illini Skyy Clark and former Oregon St Tyler Bilodeau run beautiful pick and roll. UCLA winning, but not by a lot.

Hummel is also really good when he has to sub in on Bulls TV broadcasts for Stacey King or on radio broadcasts for Bill Wennington.

Where will Skyy be next year?

Where will Skyy be next year?
He actually played well during the time I watched. He’s not scoring much, but looked to be playing within himself. Only averaging 5 shots a game so far. He has 14 steals already including 6 in one game, and only 7 turnovers. Have to see if that continues when competition gets better. I actually think he’ll be at UCLA next year too.

TIL Kennesaw State is now in CUSA.

Here's a fun game: Can you name 5 of the 10 teams that are currently in CUSA? I know I couldn't before I looked.

Rutgers down 2 with 8 ticks left. Kennesaw doing everything possible to blow this one.

EDIT: Nice steal by Kennesaw to finish off Rutgers.

Random question out of head... any chance we're still ranked tomorrow? I know it's rare a team doesn't drop after losing but...

I think we will drop but Creighton and Arizona deserve to drop out more than we do IMO. Rutgers is obviously out. I’m guessing we drop and St. Mary’s gets in. BYU, Xavier, or Ole Miss could sneak in but they shouldn’t be rewarded until they play a real team.

Why was Rutgers playing a team like Kennesaw St. away from home? Aren't those almost always teams you play at home?
