There’s a reason NW hasn’t won a game at home as a ranked team since the 1950s lmao.

Small sample size?

1. Will the fan base give me enough time to dig them out of that DEEP hole? People were even starting to get antsy with Underwood when we lost the 2019-20 Braggin' Rights Game and had stunk for 3 years at that point ... and I think our fan base is more patient than Louisville's.
Seems weird to say but things are radically different now than they were in 2017. The right guy could work the portal and turn things around in a year or two.

Ohio State has 1 good win against Alabama. They lost to a good A&M team and Purdue. But they also lost to Penn State.

Wisconsin has been 30 pieced twice now..

Until Illinois gets blown out or losses a game they shouldn't I'd put us head & shoulders over OSU and Wisconsin right now..but jmo.
You're take is good, but blowout aside, they have a ton of quality wins, including smacking around a Marquette team that beat us at our place.

we laugh, but this also hurts us.

The Big Ten is weak this year. If you look at non-conference wins, the only teams with any good wins outside the Big Ten are us, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Ohio State.

Then the Big Ten also has teams with bad losses like MSU to James Madison, Maryland to Davidson and UAB, Penn State to 4 mid-majors, Minnesota to San Francisco, Michigan to Long Beach State, Rutgers to Princeton. Now Northwestern to Chicago State. So more bad losses than good wins for the conference as a whole.

We've only won 1 of our 3 big games. No bad losses, with 2.5 cupcakes left. So the concern is, we're surely not going to go 20-0 in conference. Are we going to slip up against one of these mediocre to weak in conference opponents. Are we going to beat the few teams that can actually give our resume a boost? When it comes time for seeding, is the Big Ten going to be lowered because the overall conference is not strong. Could mean the difference between a 2 or a 3, a 4 or a 5, etc.
Fairleigh Dickinson is the only cupcake we have left. Colgate is a solid team that's projected to win their conference. And Mizzou at Braggin Rights is no picnic. At this point, the easiest games on our schedule outside F-D will be B10 opponents.

Well… ya. We have good wins too, but we haven’t been blown out multiple times. You can’t just put those 2 games aside if we’re going to compare… we’re 2-2 (including Kansas) against top 15 teams & we haven’t lost a game by more than 7 points. Not taking anything away from Wisconsin they’ve had a solid year to start, but if we lost to Tennessee & Marquette by 25+ each our outlook on here is probably way different.

And if we’re going to compare head to head.. you forgot to mention Tennessee beat Wisconsin in Madison by double digits..

And none of the advanced metric sites (KenPom, Torvik, EvanMiya, etc.) are putting those 2 games aside and all of those sites have Illinois and Wisconsin as relatively even.

All of those sites look at both teams objectively.

Again, you're not wrong, but in talking about NET, KenPom, Torvik....we have to remove the Kansas game. In our mind, the game happened, but anything outside of our fandom's minds is irrelevant. We're 1-2 vs top 15 teams, but played well in all three.

That rivals being horrible as 100 years between championships for the cubs.
Much much worse. 1,000 things have to go right to win a championship. Being decent enough to grab a 20s ranking and beating a cupcake should be a much lower bar for a P5 program.

It's a total win-win for me. Strongly dislike NW but rooted for them against Purdue, then they turn around and lose to Chicago State to make the world sane again.
