I haven't seen him flop yet so he isn't LeBron yet.

We had awful injury luck for years -- until we replace the S&C coach w/Fletch.

He’s very high usage so he will put up counting stats, but his percentages aren’t that good.

He’s shooting 43/23/69 for the season. Sure he’s 17, but he’s already pretty filled out. His game is already very polished.

He’s not big enough to control a game from the PF/C position like Jokic is. And he doesn’t have the handle to really give him the ball and create off the dribble like taller guys such as Lebron/Durant have. So I see him as similar to Anthony Davis or Chet Holmgren. And those guys are good players, but they aren’t #1 options on an NBA team. I think whoever drafts him expecting to get the next Lebron is going to be disappointed.

Anthony Davis is not a #1 option on his team? He literally leads the Lakers in points per game and shots per game this year. And comparing Anthony Davis to Chet Holmgren is... something. Anthony Davis is a 9 time All Star.

I don't know of anyone who expects Cooper Flagg to be a top 3 player of all-time (Lebron's level). The odds of Cooper Flagg being an NBA All-Star are pretty damn high for a 17 year old kid. No 17 year old kid's game is anywhere near close to a finished product. If you think his game is already very polished, that's because he's insanely good and has an incredibly high ceiling.

I think it's absolutely comical how many people on here think they know basketball and potential development of teenage kids and young adults better than NBA scouts and GMs. And even those guys get it wrong at an incredibly high rate. But yeah, if some Oracle on a message board says whoever drafts him is going to be disappointed...

I'll trust Sam Vecenie's analysis:

"Where Flagg has been most impressive is in his shot creation from the midrange. NBA scouts know Flagg is a terrific defender with tremendous instincts on that end. They know he’s wildly competitive and willing to play in whatever manner he needs to win. They also know he’s a sneaky sharp passer and an elite transition player."

By the way, Vecenie has Demin at #2 and KJ at #5 on his big board.

Nobody who drafts prospects expects any of them to be the next LeBron James. That's like buying a lottery ticket with the expectation that you'll hit the jackpot.

I should have said #1 option on a contender. Anthony Davis was certainly the Pelicans first option, but they were pretty bad while he was there. Mainly bc there’s limited ways to control a game if you are a PF that doesn’t really initiate offense. I don’t see Flagg as a guy that can do that for an NBA team. Doesn’t have the handle.

This guy has been hyped as the best HS player since Lebron. IMO he’s nowhere close to Lebron. Lebron was a freak athlete that played like Magic Johnson in HS. Flagg is nothing like that. I think Flagg is overrated in terms of what his ceiling could be. He’s not a freak athlete, he doesn’t have the handle of an NBA guard. I think he will be a productive 4 at the NBA level. But not a guy on the level of impact that Lebron/Kobe/Shaq/MJ/Durant/Luka/Jokic have been. All those guys were either freak athleticism, freak size, or could handle the ball. Flagg is none of those things, and I think you have to have those attributes to be a transcental player - not just an All Star.

JMHO...but having seen Flagg play only 3 games to date, I have not seen any college player at any age that is as skilled at making difficult shots from so many situations and positions. And I have been watching all time stars since the years of Bob Pettit and Dolph Schayes (put that name in because few have ever heard of him). And every honest person knows for a fact that Cooper will become more skilled and efficient. Also, not many 17 year old kids are as aggressive and aware offensively...simply astonishing to see him play. Can't imagine how the Illini will defend him...sure wish Harris and Rodgers were available. It would be a good learning experience to let Rez try...but the trade-offs might be a negative...or not.
