AJ Storr's record of playing for a new team every year in high school and college is the thing that always bothered me about our program's attempt to recruit AJ Storr this past Spring. That recruitment always seemed like a very poorly thought-out one. I am not picking on the kid, Storr. It's our coaching staff's judgement that really bothered me. That's not an every day guy.
Every year guy

Some people on this board were going ballistic when we did not get Starr. I was not one of them. Yes our coaching staff did try to work with STARR but they BACKED OFF. It is a process. The coaching staff's judgement was correct in the end. And yes, he is definitely NOT an everyday guy. In the end, I am glad that we are where we are at. Hopefully we will fully gel stay healthy and make a run.

Put me in the camp who wanted Storr (not Bart Starr) but I in no way was ballistic when we didn't get him. But boy was I wrong on this one!!!

I think our staff handled it perfectly. Of course they were going to show interest in an Illinois kid who has obvious athletic talent. But they backed off when his demands got crazy. And they had great "back up" plans if it's fair to use that description for KJ and Riley.

No way Davis survives this season. I wonder who Carolina turns to next? Any insiders with speculation?
There will be huge pressure to look outside of their family tree for once. Getting someone like King Rice or Wes Miller won’t cut it. There will be folks to clamor to get Jay Wright to come out of retirement which won’t happen.

Kid's gonna be even more of a failure at the P5 level than Bronny was.
Absolutely. Very little hullabaloo about his recruitment. If the kid was a true talent, it would’ve been 24 x 7 speculation about where he would go.

247 has him ranked at #257 on their composite, even with his "pedigree." Who knows what his rank would be if his father was some nobody (Bronny was a five star recruit and #22 in the nation according to 247, and it looks like he was vastly overrated). The guy immediately ahead of Bryce has two offers, from Jacksonville State and Louisiana Tech. The guy immediately below him is committed to Arkansas Little-Rock.

Nepotism is a powerful thing.

With the increase in scholarship limits, which is very stupid, it doesn't really matter.

You could justify it as a recruiting ploy to the better players. Hey, Lebron drops by at practice every now and then.

At the University of Illinois, we don't think of it as NEPOTISM. we think of it as IllinoisLoyalty . . .

Illini senior day special for Brad Underwood and son Tyler ...

Tyler appears to be good at what he does and I think he'll make a great head coach for somebody some day. I'm OK with how his advancement has played out. But, it's still nepotism!

Nepotism is not always bad and doesn't always mean the beneficiary is undeserving. Often that's the case, but not always.

I've never really had an issue with nepotism helping get a foot in the door. On the broadcasting side, the current poster child for that is Noah Eagle. There's zero question that Noah got to learn a lot from his dad and probably got a starting opportunity that others might not get because his dad is Ian Eagle. But Noah kicked the door down and has clearly made his own name in the business. Same with Tyler. Sure, he got an initial position on his dad's staff. But by nearly all accounts he's earned the right to keep advancing. I would like to see what happens for him being on a different staff (side note - I think he will continue to be very successful).

It's when people continue to get or keep an opportunity when it's clear they are not deserving that nepotism becomes a bad thing. Two examples - Jac Collinsworth for broadcasting and Brian Ferentz as an offensive coordinator (but not as an offensive line coach).

Somehow I never made the connection that Noah Eagle was Ian Eagle's son lol

Didn't a kid with the last name of Jordan wear the O&B?

Northwestern got completely screwed. Northwestern had a layup that was pinned against the glass and the ball bounced right to Barnhiser for an easy putback to tie the game with about 6 seconds left. But the refs called a goaltend on the layup in error. After review they determined no goaltend, but no Barnhiser putback either . Gave NW the ball with 6 seconds and they couldn’t score. NW also at Iowa on a 30 footer at the buzzer, otherwise they’d be 3-0.

Might have lost a tourney bid tonight. Likely Q1 win.

Admittedly, I'm kind of a broadcast junkie so I follow this kind of stuff. But man, Dad has some strong genes. Noah looks like Ian and sounds like Ian. It's actually a little frightening how Ian cloned himself. :D

Is it still considered nepotism if they're deserving of the position? I thought nepotism meant they were getting preferential treatment over others who are more deserving otherwise.

PS, I'm asking because i don't know, and not saying this is so (before someone comes along and pounds me into the ground lol)
