With the Rutgers loss, Illinois is guaranteed at the very least a 9 seed and a first round bye in the BTT.

I think a lot depends on match ups. I think a physical taller team gives us problems. If we get past the first round the bracket could be favorable depending on upsets

We normally don’t have that luck
We did last year, with the exception of being in UCONN's region. The matchups fit perfectly for the first 3 games. Maybe we can get lucky again.

Lundardi put out bracket today that has Illinois (8) v. Vanderbilt (9) and winner gets Auburn. I don't know that Illinois beats Vanderbilt to get in position to get thumped by Auburn.

I wonder which would activate the BU-haters more: a close loss to Vandy and out in the first round, or a win against Vandy and then getting thumped by Auburn?

Thank God a chimp throwing feces against a wall is more accurate than Lunardi, because I would HATE that setup.

Really? If we lose out, we finish 10-10. Oregon could go 2-1 and finish 11-9. Indiana wins out and goes 11-9. Nebraska wins out and goes 10-10. We would then be tied for 9th in the standings with Nebraska and lost to them H2H. This would put us in 10th and we'd play in the first round.

Am I missing something?

In 1988, both OU and Kansas had relative easy paths to the Final Four before their fateful title game. Those Jayhawks beat 11-seed Xavier, 14-seed Murray State, 7-seed Vanderbilt and 4-seed Kansas State, before knocking off 2-seed Duke.

Arkansas in 1990 beat 13-seed Princeton, 12-seed Dayton, 8-seed North Carolina and 10-seed Texas before losing to 3-seed Duke in the Final Four.

That is good luck. We had to play ISU and then UCONN not an easy path

I thought a team couldn't play a team in the same conference until the Sweet Sixteen? Vandy is in the SEC, right?

Per the attached, two in conference teams cannot face each other until E8 if they played each other 3 or more times. I do not see the "S16 rule" anymore, but I am sure that the committee will do best to avoid these matchups until S16, but it may be impossible given large number of teams getting im from SEC and B1G.

Vandy and Auburn only play each other once in regular season, so this rule does not apply to them.

Understood. Thanks!

Unless we get out of the 8/9 game its going to be a short stay. The more than likely scenario is we win enough to get out of the 8/9, only to lose to the 10 seed lol.
Honestly, if they stay in the 8/9 game. You want Houston as the 1 seed.

Out of Auburn, Duke, Bama/Florida, and Houston. I think Houston is the one the Illini have the best chance to beat.

I'm not saying I think the Illini would necessarily win since Houston is a very good, experienced, and very physical defensive team but Illinois at least would provide some matchup problems due to the lack of size on Houston(especially if Morez is back and healthy).

Houstons frontcourt is 6'7, 6'7, 6'8. While their guards/wings run 6'1, 6'3, 6'3, 6'4, 6'5.

Ivisic being a 7 footer provides some matchup issues while Morez would match up well(he kinda reminds me of Houston bigs). Then KJ and Riley would create some matchup issues on the wing with their size(theoretically so would White and Hum who should be able to shoot over everyone).

Ignore Lunardi. Here's why. He's a lunatic.

TEAM 1
* 19-10 Overall record
* 8-8 conference record (in a Power 2 conference)
* #18 KenPom
* #19 NET ranking
* 4-8 vs Quad 1
* 9-10 vs Quads 1-2

TEAM 2
* 18-11 Overall record
* 10-8 conference recrod (in a Power 2 conference)
* #22 KenPom
* #21 NET ranking
* 6-10 vs Quad 1
* 12-11 vs Quads 1-2

One might think these two teams would be seeded identically --- or at the most, one seed apart in the NCAA tourney.

TEAM 1 -- KENTUCKY: 3-seed
TEAM 2 -- ILLINOIS: 8-seed

There's no such thing as luck. There's chance, which is entirely random. Chance can be overcome, over time. Do it.

Look at the losses. Some of ours are flat out awful. Not sure if they lost to the likes of power houses such as Northwestern, Rutgers, USC, Nebraska or Duke by 100.

Kentucky beat Duke, Florida, Tennessee (twice).....

All Q1 wins aren't created equal.

Edit: The SEC is the best conference in the country, by FAR.

I hear you, but Kentucky has 9 Q1 wins. They’re 9-9. Point still stands though, ignore Lunardi.

Edit: Just checked again and I think you meant Kansas. If so, that’s dead on.
