Quintana has such a team friendly deal I don't know if you want to move him.

I would argue that's exactly why you move him. There's contending teams that would kill for his production paired with that contract. We are starved for positional prospects.

I agree. For Quintana, with that contract, you should end up with 2 (maybe 3) guys who are on your MLB roster within a year. And probably a more distant prospect or two depending on the upside of the guys who are close.

This little run has been nice to see after a brutal few months, but I don't think it really justifies doing anything other than selling. The Sox have a 5% shot at the playoffs per baseball prospectus, are behind 8 other teams in their wildcard challenge, and still have the worst run differential and worst OPS in the AL. They should sell whatever they can, they should keep Quintana Sale Rodon Abreu, and go from there.

Dave Cameron over at Fangraphs doing his annual trade-value series. Quintana coming in at #41.

Some great discussion in the comments in regards to Q. Many think he's being vastly undervalued (because Jose Quintana), and belongs in the top 25. Given his numbers/consistency/contract, I'd have to agree. Sale has to be top 5 on this list.

After that weekend I don't see how they don't start to move guys. I was on board with keeping guys if they took 3 of 4. I know they are only a handful back in the wild card, but have a lot of teams to jump. Lets see what we can get back.

The sad part is, I don't see this team being that bad and that far away from competing for the division. I like the guys we have in the outfield, and most of our pitching. Its 3 spots in the infield that they need to upgrade. Anderson is a good prospect at short, go get a close to MLB ready 3 bagger in one of the deals they make and maybe this team is close. Maybe.

FYI - Heard from a friend that the Score was discussing a Quintana for Puig trade this morning. Not sure how legit or if they were just speculating.

At first I like it, but then I look at the outfield that has 3 guys locked in for the next 3 years. Where does he go and who moves out?

I wish I would have kept a spreadsheet over the years of the fictional trades that A. The Score dreams up and B. How many times my father has called me about said fictional trades. Crede for A-Rod straight up being my personal favorite from back in the day.

If Crede didn't have the back issues I don't see why that trade wouldn't have worked out...

Don't know if any of you guys watched the game last night, great to see the bats come alive, Smards pitched an excellent game.

Interesting, they showed the dugout after he was taken out, some hugs for the guys like this was the last time he was gonna see them in a Sox uniform...

I was actually hoping that somehow the sox dealt Samardzija in the division to KC. I really like Brandon Finnegan who went to CIN in the deal. Sounds like possibly Giants have interest and they have a good catching prospect. I think they move him before his Tuesday start. We will see.

We'll see. Nothing on the rumor mill as of yet today...

This might be the hardest season I've had watching this team.

Everytime I start thinking about what potential prospects we can bring in for our older guys we run off a few winning games. This 2nd wildcard race is so wide open, but I doubt we have the team to do it (even with the starting pitching).

If Alexei, LaRoche, and Eaton were having seasons we've seen from them in the past they would likely be right up there with the Twinkies fighting it out.... And that would be even with our inept lineup at 3B, 2B, and C.

I know what you mean. Tease us a little bit, then fall back into mediocrity. I was pretty surprised at last night's game. After the bats fell kinda silent on Sunday (although we got the win), they picked back up last night. Oddly enough, even after we fell behind twice, I still felt like we would go back ahead. Granted, 2 last place teams helps a lot, but still...

Also helps that the Red Sox' OF sucks. Maybe not so much Mookie Betts, but he sure allowed a run in with that air mailed throw to the plate. And someone needs to put a frickin stopwatch on Hanley Ramierez at the plate. Watching that dude bat is agonizing...

I think that this is who Eaton is. Even still, had Alexei and LaRoche performed to their career averages, we'd be in the middle of this.

In my mind, nothing has changed. If you can improve your team for the next three years (in other words a MiLB player or players ready to start at the MLB level next year), you pull the trigger and trade Samardizja. If you're offered guys that are further away, you extend your middle finger.

The goal has to be to get to the post-season in the short term. Chris Sale is the ideal game 1 SP, and all movement should be made to put yourself in position to run him out there in that situation. Unless of course, you intend to rebuild instantly by trading him, which it appear there is little desire to do.

The issue is I think with Hamels still out there (and some other decent guys potentially like Tyson Ross), I don't think you are gonna get the kind of prospect deals we'd be looking for...I could see if he goes in the next day or two some team desperate on Thursday/Friday pulls the trigger on a coveted prospect.
