White Sox 2015 Thread

Well Bailey, you bad boy! What did you do?

Soooooo......your thoughts on the Sox signing Viciedo to a minor league contract?

I probably shouldn't re-hash it. A hill i'll gladly die on though that was taking place in the most popular thread on the forum.

Anyway.

Viciedo was holding out for somebody to sign him to a major league deal. He's not a major leaguer (on a team with aspirations to contend, anyway), so he's in the minors. Those are my thoughts.

I'll guess somebody will take a flyer on him for very cheap at some point. I can't imagine him back on our major league roster.

Neither is Beckham.

On Avi, my bet is small sample size. I think in a year or two he'll be in the same "not a major leaguer" category. Heck, defensively he's not even fit for my kid's team. Furthermore, how do you bring up Thompson and not play him? If he's not going to play, he should be getting work in the minors.

Agree with every word, except I think the window for Avi is closer to shutting. Viciedo 2.0, unfortunately. Would have loved to have seen him included in a deal.

Avi's window has shut for me. I see no chance for that guy. But, I'll bet that the industry is slow to come around. This guy was compared to Miguel Cabrera not that long ago. GMs will keep betting on him for a while.

If Eaton goes on the DL, Viciedo would get the call up I imagine. Your 2015 White Sox, everybody.

I'm mainly a cub fan but I do follow the sox and hope they do well. What a bad error in judgement it was not to be sellers at the deadline. This team is miles away from making the playoffs.

That is a dramatic oversimplification. Without knowing what the possibilities were for return, it is impossible to say. If they were only being offered A-ball players, I'm fine with the decision. I think that they should have been able to get more for Smardizja, but we'll never know.

Further, if Hahn decided that Smardizja is who he would go after in the offseason, they now have an upper hand after not trading him. Give him a QO, and any other team that wants to sign him must give up a pick. Not a huge price, but enough to make some teams think twice.

If you are a fan of Avi and think he belongs, do yourself a favor and don't do any research on his advanced statistics. Gosh.

I guess this works too.

Dayan Viciedo's first 762 PA with the White Sox: .263/.307/.436

Avisail Garcia's first 764 PA with the White Sox: .270/.314/.407

6 teams to leap for the 2nd wild card. Ain't happening.

Looks like Rodon brought the goods tonight against a great lineup. Dont know why the staff insists on leaving him in there when the pitch count is high though...10th game over 100 pitches. They've been bad about this all season, particularly with Sale.

Happy for Trayce too, although I don't see a future for him as a major leaguer. Toolsy with poor plate discipline. Truly a White Sox prospect. Gotta love Hawk calling him a 30 HR guy though. That why it took him 9 minor league seasons to get to the majors?

His plate discipline improved this year. He's not an everyday player on a contender, but I do think he's a potentially useful 4th OF. Power and defense can keep you on a roster.

Ventura's handling of our staff goes against conventional wisdom. Oddly, do you know who is a big supporter of ignoring pitch counts? Nolan Ryan.

Jordan Danks 2.0?

He's better than Danks IMO. Most importantly, he provides some power to go with his glove. He'll have OBP issues (which should not be ignored), but for a 4th OF that plays predominantly against LHP, I think he has a chance.
I agree he is better than Danks. Just referring to this great OF prospect we are told is in the Sox organization that takes 5-6 years to even crack a roster.

Judging by the comments I think I am the only one to not give up on Avisail yet.

I might have been a couple weeks ago. He's changed his approach at the plate and has shown some semblance of a player that's still developing.

You guys know I'm an Avi fan. Not a stupid, unrealistic, with-blinders-on, guy can do know wrong fan, but a fan none the less.

Jordan Danks? Oh Lord...:tsk:
