Why, DV can play, along with AG. Calling a guy who is hitting 270 a minor leaguer is something you need to let go. It really is ridiculous.

If a team thought Viciedo could have helped them, he'd be on any other major league roster at this point. If you want to position yourself on the other side of the fence of every GM, analytic, scout etc, by all means zoggle. Calling Dayan Viciedo a minor leaguer isn't ridiculous, it's a categorical fact.

I do think he'll catch on as a 4th outfielder somewhere once we're done paying him.

The jury is still out on Avi, as has been discussed at length in this thread. If he continues to produce at this rate, however, he'll be in Dayan's shoes sooner than later. Many pages back I posted a fantastic Fangraphs piece about the disparity between fan expectations and analytical expectations for Avi's season. For whatever reason, he passes the ambiguous eye test - but you can't pair a .270 average with below average plate discipline, power and defense and expect to stick as an everyday right fielder.

So, what's the ridiculous part again?

The Melk man made two sweet plays tonight. The running catch of the liner by the wall early, and the quick throw back in off of Plouffe's double to hit Salidino (or Beckham, can't remember), then the relay to home to nail Buxton.

All fo naught, though, we left the bats at the hotel...

Wonder what the plan with Trayce is going forward. Definitely handling himself well with an ultra small sample size. Looks to have all the tools Avi has and then some. Surprising for a kid who saw modest success in the minors...

I'm curious about this too.

Keep two things in mind.
(1) He was always younger than the average player during his MiLB career, although this difference was not overly dramatic
(2) He's a platoon player. He's not being force to hit RHP.

I've actually bought his potential as a 4th OF/platoon OF. Whether he can transition to something more will be interesting.

IO, did you see his dinger the other night on the inside pitch? Short armed it right over the LF wall...

I know exactly which one you're talking about. A four seamer at 91 that doesn't get in enough is asking to be clobbered, but he did a beautiful job of pulling his hands in and keeping it fair.

That's what big league hitters do. Mistakes end up in the seats. Giving me some hope right now. Would like to see him playing every day. Have melky or avi take some dh days to keep trace in the lineup

Avi has had quite a few DH days, and seems to not mind the role. Of course, that leaves the $12M man Laroche riding the pine...what a waste of $$...

Laroche on the bench is a waste of $$...but its not my money. Two ways to go about Laroche, sit him and see what you have in young guys, or play him, hope he gets hot for the last month, and goes into the off season with some confidence to start fresh next year.

In hindsight, given Laroche's previous few years, there's no way anyone could have predicted the tank year he's having this year. But ya gotta figure a player with his experience would have come out of a season long funk by now...WAY before now.

Pays your money, takes your chances, I guess...

David Robertson...closer. Let's see, last 2 games, 2 IP, 5 H, 7 R's. Yep, arm must be getting tired after pitching all of 57 innings this year...

Samardzija throws a CG 1-hitter, 6Ks, 0BBs. His stuff was excellent, the whole game. Went to a full count once, IIRC.

Damn, where ya been all season, boy?

Apparently he watched some film and realized he was tipping his pitches.

Thanks for fixing that on September 21st, Jeff!

No chit...

Don't know if that was the case, Bailey, as I haven't seen any reports relating to him tipping his pitches. What I DO know is that he had excellent drop on his slider and change today, as opposed to "spinning" it up there in his last several outings. You could tell from the first batter he faced...

That's great, Bailey, but it says nothing about the action on his off speed stuff...

This is the point. He might have changed something that fortuitously correlated with having better movement. He may in fact have continued to tip his pitches but had good enough stuff to get guys out anyway. One start tells me nothing about anything.

One thing stands out to me. Why the video guy and not the pitcher fixing genius COUP?
