Wisconsin 25, Illinois 21 Postgame

I mean we're asking pass rushers to be physical enough to break through a double team, gently tackle the QB, etc. I get that the rules are there for safety.... but if you have replay, use it? Games are already obnoxiously long and commercial flooded. I don't care if it's 4 hours or 5, get the calls right.
Great point. The league should have a lead official(s) watching the games on something other than the farcical hooded screen on the field to make the calls on replay and get them right. Use judgement on those types of hits. There was clearly no intent to lead with the crown of the helmet to hurt the QB. He made a tackle to try to dislodge the ball and their helmets made contact. No way that deserves ejection and missing the first half of the next game. Common sense.

I normally don't pile on bad announcers...but this was one of the most egregious rubbing every successful Wisc play in Illinois faces I've ever heard.
They both should be embarrassed.

I've never heard an announcer literally scream for every great play of only one team.
Y’all really have to stop with this. He screamed for every touchdown of ours I believe. They’re very passionate you just don’t notice it for our side Because …. We don’t do anything worth yelling about.

If Lunney stays, we will likely lose some knowledgeable fans. We've already lost most of the unknowledgeable fans. He is not good. Never has been.

I don't have anything really against Henry, he's been ok. But if Jim Leonhard is still on the staff next year, he needs to be the DC. You can let Henry save some face and make them co-DCs, but Leonhard needs to be the one in charge.
Lol, Jamison and Henry are already co-DCs. Guess we could start something new and make tri-DCs!

Had a chance to talk with some well respected Illinois high school coaches tonight. They were collectively pissed off at some key play calling, obviously in the 4th quarter. We lack discipline in every aspect of the game, players and coaches.....ESPECIALLY the coaches. It is not going to improve. We will have maddening Saturdays like this with this regime. We are Illinois. We will never be Michigan, Ohio State, or Penn State. We will have the occasional great year every 12-15 years, then regress badly. There is a documented history.

Time for basketball....

Epic bed wetting. I shouldn't be stunned based on history, but I still am.

I get the angst over the Newton call. I really do, and it messed up the game. But it was the right call. Even Newton knew it. I hate that there aren't "degrees" to that penalty, because it wasn't egregious or malicious. But if the roles were reversed we'd be incensed if we didn't get that call. Because that's what the rule is.

That said, we did a million other things wrong. Even before we lost Newton we were bringing pressure and never getting our hands on their QB (he's a freshman, did you know? Lol) he had way too much time. And our offense is just a train wreck. Lunney is lucky Luke bailed him out so many times today with his legs. The line can't pass block at all. And we run almost zero quick hitters. I actually think Luke is a pretty good QB, he just needs a lot more help. Not being able to get off a Hail Mary pass was a microcosm for the entire game/season.

So which is it? He screamed at all of ours....or we didn't do anything worth yelling?

Because he absolutely did not scream at anything Illinois in the same manner he did at Wisconsin. He sounded completely normal @ our successful plays.
If I tuned it out...I'll wait to hear proof.

And as far as "Y'all", as I said...I don't normally participate in this. Today it stood out. And I fully expect the Gus Johnson antics. This was both announcers.

Well coached teams do not lose in this manner. Ref mistakes or not. We make the worst mistakes at the most inopportune moments.

Our offense is not well coached. Our defense is dealing with coaching growing pains and a reset.

Disagree teams lose due to calls by refs but we lost because we didn’t play 60 minutes took off after Newton got kicked and the last drive of the 1st half. We are young with out much depth. Only so much coaching can do. We had our opportunities but didn’t make the plays.

My attitude: if you play a game close enough that a ref mistake will screw you out a win, that ref mistake will happen.

Just have to hope the growing pains for some of these young guys pays dividends in next few seasons.
