You know someone is a real Illini if they still keep their mug club card in their wallet.

Are some of the bars known as just being Greek bars? I know in Lincoln on our main street we had a few that were almost exclusively Greek bars. Now from what I know there's really just one that is a major Greek bar.
My grandfather used to frequent that establishment when he was on campus, probably around the time it opened. I believe 1933-1938 era is when he was there and I think it opened in 1935, right?
I went there in the late '70's - one night I talked up the bartender, who was an Illini OL (don't remember his name). Ended up drinking free all night.
Another time, when USC was in town, a couple of their WRs were in there the night before the game. Didn't matter, Illinois still got creamed.
For the way, WAY back crowd, there was the Thunderbird...

When did Block move from the houses to the bars? When I was there (1996-2000) the frats would host block at their house with their partner sorority. Some would head to game. Some would not.
Wait, so they would basically tailgate at there house and party before the game? That sounds awesome! I would imagine that was just a blast.
At Lincoln that started to get phased out around 1995ish or so.
Block meant a few kegs at the house, fill up the botas with vodka and koolaid and then walk over the stadium to watch the game.
