Ah, the power of pessimism.
We may not get these two/one, but now is not the time to move on. They will commit somewhere.

Recruits are the backbone of your future. Many think we have missed on high level targets, it is not true. They are correct we have missed on some good players, but all should think that these recruits still have to think about the season they have to play. I'm still sure staff is out, beating the bushes, and will get quality recruits.
Ayo is still #1priorty, has been since spring. All need to think of what we grabbed in spring , some guys that bloomed during there senior year. I have no problem waiting for QUALITY players, rather than grabbing guys to so we have a commitment, that 6months later decide to go somewhere else. If they want to stay, we want them to play here.

Today has been a pretty bad day for a lot of people around here, but amazingly, it took until almost 10:00 PM CDT for us to see the actual worst post of the day. Congrats!

I mean props for taking the most likely outcome? Obviously odds are not in our favor.

I would not put the odds against us with Ayo.

And Ob, man, I just think you like to argue. If we make it to the tourney this year, after missing out for many, the fan base will be happy. If we get Ayo (really want) and THT (really want) and some other good get but miss the tourney again, people will be angry at the end of the season.

I understand that recruiting matters. Again, I am just more concerned with winning this year.
Your opinion and my opinion differ on the Hill, Nunn, Tate class being good. No problem with that.

You don't think the UK kids playing in one year don't realize the pressure of performing with the 5* kid coming next year that could move him to the bench and out of draft lingo?

Sure, effects of recruiting impact current year performance intangibly more so than tangibly, but WITHOUT QUESTION recruiting affects that years team's wins and losses. Additionally, ticket sales, donors pockets, team confidence, energy, media discussion(recruiting), performance, and more are impacted, which move a program positively or negatively. Obviously the recruits affect a program tangibly more so in future years, but underestimating the importance of recruiting on the current years team is a mistake . Aside from the above, coaches can focus more on coaching when classes are filled. To think recruiting success or failures don't impact current performance is simply nativity to college sports.
Brilliant correlation!

I'd like to know the last time this board thought a recruit we watched/offered/visited/ wouldn't have been a good pick up (at least in the beginning)? I get being excited and all for these kids, but seeing as ASU is our main competition in this, I can't imagine this kid is on many radars (not saying thats always a bad thing, but it's at least moderately telling, at least until this staff has sometime to show they can develop guys).

Guess Tim Finke falls in the category, but there was plenty of love for him up until a few months ago. Or maybe I'm just being a downer.
Because I saw video of him playing? And people like Evan Daniels have also sung his praises? Calling him a top 50-75 kid? Because I see a player that can shoot, dribble, drive and think it's a great fit for Underwood's offense? Because this kid did well on the international stage against players his age?

I doubt top programs would say their recruiting efforts for next year will impact their current season success.

The real coaching abilities on and off the court will determine our success, not whether we get a given recruit. As the coaching successes evolve, we will be in a more friendly recruiting place going fwd.

I see the bragging rights game as a potential turning point if we can pull it off against a top 5 recruiting class....a "wtf" moment for future recruits looking at IL and optimism for fanbase.

BU is selling a new and fast system to play in and a staff that will get the most from each player...but we'll have to demonstrate it on the court before the fire is lit for many future recruits.

That said, if we recruit good players that want to work and learn and accept good coaching, I strongly believe we will win and over time the recruiting trail will become easier. I like that approach much better than "beg/borrow/steal some 4 and 5 stars and ride them to the promised land" (I believe thats the current Mizzou strategy, right?)

I have been watching some of his full games, and he isnt the greatest at playing D, but he does play D most of the time guarding a taller player. He looks like another one who needs some Fletch time, but he can dribble some, jump some, shoot some, play D some, I will watch a few more games after the Illini play today, but from what I have seen he is a good all around player, if he is really 6-6 all the better

Someone else said we still have all of our top targets. We still have top target, but not all of. Hopefully the class eventually shapes up to be good or better.

Looking forward to BUs 1st year on the court. Using my Rutger's ticket as a bookmark, seems like that was years ago. Another month to go before we see the product on the court.

No foretelling included with chief pic.

The whiffs that I can recall (starting with 2005 and then going into 2006):

Julian Wright
Luke Zeller
Byron Eaton
Jamont Gordon
Austin Jackson
Jovan Adams
Devan Downey
Chris Douglas Roberts
Leo Criswell
Jared Carter
Jamal Boykin
Rashad Woods
Andre McGee
Abdul Herrera
Sherron Collins
Jon Scheyer
Duke Crews
Ramar Smith
Willie Kemp
Derrick Jasper
Scottie Reynolds
Jerry Smith
Eugene Harvey
Marques Johnson
Bryce Webster

Good times.
The UI sports memory recall of some of you guys on this board is astounding.
