I guess Robert will have a few holes in his "90 Illini" blog.

I've thought all along that the 13 class would be 25+ because of anticipated attrition. This is very normal with a new staff.

In one way this is a surprising development but in another way its' not. Neither had made any great contributions in the past and apparently the new staff didn't see either of them making a significant contribution in the future. However, I wish there were more details to this situation and what exactly transpired.

one must follow the rules.....no idea if that is it, but if Twitter had anything to do with it then they should not be shocked with some of the stuff that was posted. Dang social media |

I know Jordan Frysinger was arrested last year and Jake Kumerow was ineligble for the bowl game. I'm guessing they both had some things they needed to work on off the field and Beckman wasn't happy with their progress.

Yeah I can see that - Beckman doesn't seem like the type that would let that stick around for long.

As for Beatty and Gonzalez, they probably do feel a lot better about the type of player they're recruiting than the type of player they inherited. Gonzalez wouldn't even talk up Millines in his interview w/Dienhart. That means nobody has impressed him at WR |

It's just extremely disappointing that an already thin position gets thinner but even more so because there was an increased chance for one of these guys to move his way up the depth chart. Opportunities wasted. |

Ding Ding Ding
Maybe this will help us with him. Also, there is plenty of time to get more recruits and because of the new system, there probably isn't much difference between a true freshman coming in now or a redshirt freshman/sophomore that was already here. (Unless of course that redshirt fresh/soph had gotten lots of playing time) __________________ _|_ --X-X-(_)-X-X-- /...........|...........\ /.............|.............\ /...............|...............\ |

if there ever was a recruiting year where we need a couple 4* guys, this is it. Those guys can play right away in fall 2013.

Billy G & Beatty won't be lying when they tell Treadwell he can come in and get 600+ yards as a freshman no problem. We could have two freshman come in and be 2 and 3 behind Millines if they work hard. |

Although our WR corps is thin, I think the fact that we have 3 solid TEs in Evan Wilson, Jon Davis, and Matt LaCosse should help alleviate worries just a bit.

You're right. I actually think we may see Wilson slip to 3rd on the depth chart since Lacosse and Davis are better athletes and that probably means they have an advantage in this offense.

I don't know, Wilson will be used a lot as a 6th OL out on the edges blocking LB's and DB's out in space. It's hard to set a concrete depth chart since lacosse/davis and wilson will be asked to do different things.

Wilson can be used as a inline blocker and a decent pass catcher
Davis is a hybrid where he can line up at multiple areas (backfield, Inline, Slot, Split out, motion him around) where he can be used fully LaCosse has less experience as Davis but he can be used the same way due to his athletic abilities....LaCosse tho since he has the size around 6'5-6'6 225- 230lbs once he grows in his body he could be the perfect overall TE Davis at 6'3 235 is perfect for multiple sets LaCosse he could easily grow into a 6'6 245 amazing true TE we have great options at TE we just need some support from the WR core and from the RB core with Ferg, Young both being able to run and catch the ball only help soften the blow that our WR core is thin.... Milliens could have a breakout year Harris is the Mr. consistent bigger guy runs good routes understand the windows in zone coverages 3rd and 6 he will catch the ball and get u 7-8 yards Langford needs to show us all that he's transitioned from last year- looking like a track guy with pads on...too....a football player who has plenty of speed and uses his body better... after that I'm hoping Kenny Knight or Whitlow really blow up and have really solid supporting rolls to they show improvement |

So we have the following 6 WR on scholarship, 3 of whom have any college playing experience:
Lankford, Millines, Harris, Rock, Whitlow, Knight Good thing we have guys like Hawthorne and Ramsey who can play both ways. I would also assume that some of the true freshmen "athletes" ends up at WR, in addition to a guy like Church in the slot. Time to get creative with the use of fast RB, TE and DBs! __________________ ONLY ORANGE! |

You know it's too bad because if my NCAA Football 2012 dynasty was any indicator...Frysinger was going to be a great return man.
