Well, we're going on four weeks of these guys really being the only bright spots on the field. They run HARD. Amazingly, they seem to run even harder as the game goes on, which, given how the games have been going, is quite a feat. I mean, my strength is getting sapped just watching from my couch.....I can't imagine what it's like to be out there.
Anyway, there's going to be lots of (justified) negativity the rest of the way. At least we've got running backs who run like they give a damn. That's something. |

I just wish for the love of god our RBs would get some blocks to let them get out there and get some room to run

When looking for positives in how we have played so far this year, DY5 and Ferguson are it. I would love to see these guys run with a line like Wisconsin had last year.

I know this is a DY5-Fergie6 appreciation thread, but Monheim was also a great find at LB (in reference to the RB's being the only bright spot this year).

I think Ryan Lankford has done a pretty good job as well.

Lankford has really stepped it up, definitely.
As for Young.... Donnovonn, I'm sorry you came all the way from Texas to play for a crappy football team. |

I love Donovonn. I know a few times before kick returns he was dancing out there to the music. Love that he enjoys being out there and has fun, even when you'd expect everyone to be down in the dumps.

Who also had struggles early in their careers in terms of good teams.
By the way can we change the name of this thread to just "Player Appreciation Thread"? DY5 and Ferg have certainly been a bright-spot but there's been a mention of 2 other guys too and I'm sure there are more. |

Me too, huge fan. He has been a great addition to the team. His family has been a great addition to the crowd. #Feed5!

I'm hoping Young and Ferguson can be the next Thomas and Halsey.

We met Donovan shortly before the bowl last year and I can't say enough nice things about him. Amazing kid. Seeing him do well is thrilling. Ryan was great, too. (Side note: Spent a good hour with Millines' dad, what a great family. Just wish he could stay healthy!) I hate seeing our team suck from the perspective of an alumnus, I hate it even more for these kids who took a chance on Illinois and aren't giving up. We are failing them and they deserve more from their teammates, coaches and administration.

I agree those two have been the only light in a dark dark season so far.

Watch number 43 play if you want to see the only light on the defense.
