All About the Illinois Loyalty Gallery

The Illinois Loyalty Gallery is a service offered for the benefit of Illinois Loyalty visitors. To post your pictures, you must be a registered member of the Illinois Loyalty Forums.


Gallery Guidelines
The following is acceptable use of the Gallery. The Illinois Loyalty Gallery is not a general image hosting service. Only .jpg images that the user has taken relating to Illinois sports are allowed. That includes, but is not limited to:

• Pregame, in-game, and postgame of Illinois sporting events.
• Illinois sporting event locations and facilities.
• "Trip report" pictures from road trips to distant Illinois sporting events.
• Illinois memorabilia.

Each user is granted 5MB of disk space in the Gallery. Additional Gallery space may be allocated to users who are active in the Forums at the discretion of the site administrator. If you are almost out of disk space in the Gallery, please contact the site administrator to request more space.

The maximum image size allowed is 1000 pixels wide by 800 pixels in height. If your uploaded photos exceed those dimensions they will be resized to the dimension limit.


Name Your Images
Use detailed descriptions to name your image files. Default digital camera file names are not acceptable, such as "DSC123456.JPG". The following is an example of a good image name:

"2005-indiana-at-illinois.jpg".


Describe Your Photos
Users are required to enter an accurate title for each and every one of their photos in the Gallery. Entering text in the "Description" and "Keywords" fields is optional, but encouraged.


Hotlinking
Image from the Gallery may be linked to the Illinois Loyalty Forums and any other internet message board such as illinois.scout.com. If a user uploads one or more photos and hotlinks them to an outside message board, a similar post is expected to be made in the Illinois Loyalty Forums.


Images Tagged
Photos uploaded to the Gallery will be tagged with the following small promotional image in the lower portion of the image:




Bandwidth
There are no bandwidth restrictions upon images in the Gallery, however there is no such thing as unlimited bandwidth. Under rare circumstances hotlinking may be temporarily disabled.


Image Removal
Gallery images may be removed at anytime. Reasons for removal include, but are not limited to: extended inactivity in the Forums or inappropriate content. It is the responsibility of the user to keep backups of his or her images; Illinois Loyalty is not responsible for user's image backups in the Gallery. Illinois Loyalty does not provide backups of the Gallery.


Gallery How-To

Not only can you upload your photos to the Gallery, but you can create your own personal albums for better organization. The Gallery is preconfigured with two main categories: Illinois Basketball and Illinois Football, but by creating your Personal Albums you add an extra layer of depth and organization. This How-To will give you a basic introduction into creating personal albums, uploading images, and assigning categories.

Assigning images to albums and categories can be tricky with the Gallery software because you have to perform certain actions in a set order, but it is important because we want your photos to be easy to find and well organized.


Scenario: Let's say you have 3 images of the Wake Forest basketball game you want to upload. First make sure you're a registered member of the Forums, logged in, and browsing the Gallery.


Step #1: create a personal album

• Click "Album Admin" and "Add Album".
• Enter an album name and description. Hint - be sure to include the two teams playing (Wake Forest @ Illinois) and the date (12/1/2004) at the very minimum.
• Make sure the album it not private. No private albums are allowed in the Gallery.
• Click "Add Album".

Step #2: upload your photos

• Click "Upload Photos".
• IMPORTANT - Select your new album in the "Choose a category" drop-down (you will not be able to do this at any other time).
• Click to upload your 3 photos.
• Click "Upload/Submit".
• In the next screen, assign your images to "Illinois Basketball" in the first "Optional category:".
• Enter a "Title". The Description and Keywords fields are optional, but the more info you provide the better.
• Click "Process File".

Step #3: finishing up

Your photos should now be entered into the Gallery. If you click "My Gallery" you should see your new album and photos. Now we're going to assign your new album to one of the top-level categories, in this case "Illinois Basketball".

• Click "Album Admin"
• Edit your new album.
• "Assign as a subcategory?" select: "Illinois Basketball".
• Now when you click "Illinois Basketball" on the front page of the Gallery, your personal Wake Forest album will be included. It will also appear when visitors click on "Member Galleries".

dan, what about some different categories? vintage/best illini memorabilia, your illini wall, old campus shots- bars, dorms, other sports, etc.

Sure, we can always do different categories when the need arises. BromleyHall94, you can now categorize your "Wall" photo in the "Illini Wall" category.
