Wow! Cards pull out what perhaps could almost be considered a "must" win. Maybe their bad patch is over, and they can find additional success in Cincinnati.
Not "must win", but it does feel much better than a loss. The Pirates got within 2.5 I believe late July (?), and then the lead grew right back. I hope the Cards do what they are supposed to do the next 7, like win 5 or so.
You are correct. Pirates got within 2.5 games of Cards right before the All-Star break, after which St. Louis pulled ahead again. But I also remember at the end of last year when the Bucs got within 1.0 game of St. Louis with three games to go. Cards held on and ended up finishing 2 games ahead, but that experience makes me a little nervous any time they start getting a little close.
So healthy he has to flip the ball to Heyward to get it back in the infield. It's times like these when I wouldn't mind the NL having the DH.
Cards MUST take 3 of 4 in Cincy. We have to get the ball rolling, and hold on. I'm still nervous, but I think our rough stretch is over.
I'm very nervous. I have felt like we are not as good as our record for most of this season. We just don't have the offensive power that we need to feel good about the post season. Chicago and Pittsburgh can put up some runs.
Me, too. Cards' hitting has been way too spotty. And now their pitching is getting shakey. But, given that their pitching has been pretty good until lately, and with some of their hitters coming back, still optimistic that they can win the division.
This is a must win. I don't give a !!!! if we're ahead by 4.5 games, we have to win this. We need to get the bats going, pitching needs to start going deep, and we need to show urgency. Seems like they care, but don't care at the same time. Just going through the motions. Man, oh man, I am scared of this stretch run
I'm baaaaaaaaacklooks like we have a new poster here, happy to have another Redbirds fan on this forum! Welcome, chris.
Hope they get out of this funk today, and carry some momentum into the next series for a sweep, God knows we need it
I thought for sure with the opponents we had scheduled last weekend through middle to end of September and Pittsburghs schedule, that there would be a 1 game maybe 2 game separation right now between us. But I am extremely happy we have pushed it out. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to keep division lead, now I can't see us loosing it. I hope this keeps up.
