Thanks.

But that seems unnecessary. Let somebody play 4 full seasons. Redshirting as a freshman shouldn't mean you lose options later on down the line based on circumstances you couldn't have anticipated.

O for sure, it is only confusing because it is a pointless process. I guess the idea is that you can't redshirt a player for 2 years to improve and then get 4 years after to play... no clue just trying to make sense of the NCAA rules

If Thorne gets a redshirt this year, and my job was on the line, I'd rather have him the ET next year. Think about that lineup. Thorne, Hill, Nunn, Abrams, Finke, Black, JCL...that's a roster we could do some damage with. And if I needed a season to make a difference in the short term to save my job. Yeah, I'd take Thorne over ET.

I think the argument is not about allowing to RS for a couple of years and then be able to play 4. But more to allow a player who has taken a voluntary RS to petition for a 6th year IF he happens to get injured later in his career. Just because a player agrees to RS does not mean he can predict injuries during the remaining of his college career. But again, it is the NCAA we are talking about :)

Absolutey wrong. If your million dollar job was on the line what would you do..especially when Thornes playing days could be over anyway.

Well, something should be said for being a decent person and doing the right thing. You can keep your million dollar job by treating people the right way. No one should want to play for someone that cuts other people down whenever they get in his way. And no one should want to people for someone who would punish a kid for a health situation. Geez. If there is anywhere of all places in the world that should not be revoking scholarships on injured players, it is here.

O I agree, I was simply wondering why even have the rule in the first place. I could see people taking advantage of a 6th year in other ways without some sort of ruling. I absolutely agree with your point though.

I've noticed a lot of people who don't share your opinions are fools or silly. That's foolish my friend.

I've disagreed with many people on here, and that's normal for a message board. I've disagreed with Obelix and Second and Chalmers several times in the past couple of weeks, but I don't find their comments to be silly or foolish, I just disagree with some of them. It's normal for opinions to be split somewhat 50/50 on certain topics such as Groce's future, Tate's role on the team, recruiting needs, etc. It's healthy to have those type of discussions.. Your suggestion isn't even close to being a realistic option though. It would be one of the biggest scumbag moves in college basketball. I don't even think it's a legal option, it's certainly not an ethical one.

There's some talk about just giving all athletes 5 years of eligibility and then just getting rid of all this stuff, but who knows if that will get approved.

Do we know if TA got approved by the NCAA for another year?

Can't even apply until after the season. Since it has to be a "season ending injury". :)

People seem to be forgetting that Groce has not ruled out trying to get Thorne back for this year. If that happens, there's an open scholarship. I don't believe anyone with a fully functioning brain believes that Groce is going to Creen Thorne mid season. But if Thorne is going to be able to come back and there's a scholarship left, I could certainly see us at least inquiring.

Thomas is going to be enrolling at his new school in a few weeks, he's not going to wait for a ride to open up for next fall.

And Groce hasn't proven already that he's willing to oversign? Not saying it will happen, because I don't think that there's any chance he comes here. But I don't think it's so outlandish that Groce doesn't at least inquire.

You can't over sign players in the middle of the year.

Sure, but oversigning is different than booting someone mid semester. I supposed he could tell Kipper to take a hike, but people here suggesting Thorne is the one to leave is hard to believe.

Exactly. Unless someone wants to leave of their own volition, it is Nichols intentionally waiting until fall to start his clock or there isn't room at the inn.

I remember after watching ET get absolutely obliterated by Ed Morrow, I didn't even want him anymore. I was the conductor of the Ed Morrow train.

What are the odds though? I certainly hope he can make it back this year, although if the season is a waste by then why not just take the redshirt, if it is available? If the season is still salvageable then by all means yes get back as soon as possible.

Yeah that lineup has been awesome this year. Add a guy coming off 2 serious leg injuries who hasn't played in years and now we really have something.

We get JCL back next year. Remember, he was done for the season.
