Nichols chances are good if one believes that Tulane did not follow the proper transfer request procedures, thus causing Nichols to sit out an extra half year.

Nichols briefly attended summer classes, which the NCAA regards as fall classes. How would following the proper transfer request procedures undo that fact? If he attended "fall" classes, then a one year sit out means he cannot play until the Fall 16 semester ends.

I am just hoping the NCAA decides that Illinois and its fans suffered enough last season and grants all our requests.

Do we have a reference that confirms that he actually attended classes? My understanding was that he enrolled in summer classes but never made it to Tulane's campus to attend classes. I'm probably mistaken...any clarification would be great.

Just goes to show that you should never attend classes!

This says he spent time on campus for summer school:

And this quotes HCJG stating he attended summer classes for "a couple of days."

Summer equals fall in NCAA-speak.

That's why there is the appeal process. According to the language of the rules, he wouldn't be able to play until the spring but the appeal process helps provide a ruling for a case that shouldn't be determined in such a black and white manner. He did receive financial aid, but if he withdrew in a timely manner for the 100% reimbursement of tuition and fees, and paid back any other fees, he would have an okay chance of getting the waiver approved. Definitely the least of our worries out of all the waivers we've applied for though.

Agreed. We have him for 3.5 years regardless. Getting the extra year for Tracy or Big Mike would be more important than getting one more semester for Kipper.

Heck, just getting the NCAA to rule on any of our appeals would be a small victory at this point.

No kidding. I think they need to realize that not having this worked out by now puts us at a significant disadvantage. There really needs to be a set date where all decisions on eligibility are announced. That way each program has an even playing field in terms of recruiting HS kids and transfers.

This current system (perhaps unsurprisingly) seems totally shambolic. :tsk:

I've been thinking the same thing, that the uneven timing causes an uneven playing field. Of course, forcing a hard date likely puts every school asking for a waiver at a disadvantage, as they would presumably all have to wait until the last waiver was decided. So, that isn't good either. But having so much of your roster undecided is clearly not helping us. How much is it hurting? Not sure, but it is hurting.

But, summer classes always equal fall classes. That's something that is not up for discussion. Unless the NCAA changes their mind and grants a waiver... so it is up for discussion?

How do you grea$e that wheel? Maybe if you are North Carolina or Kentucky, you get the waiver... I just hate that different rules seem to apply to different teams, depending on how much TV money you bring in. :tsk:

Not sure I agree, if every team has to wait on one final date, each team is on an even playing field. It might suck for everyone, but at least certain teams don't get preferential treatment.

Evidence? Or just sour grapes?

No evidence... just a lot of coincidental events that seem happen one after the other. Just hoping and praying that the same rules DO actually apply to every school. And maybe they do and it just seems like the high-profile programs seem to have better luck with these types of things. :noidea:

Sour grapes isn't possible at this point because none of the Illini waivers have yet to be denied.

Yeah, it's possible.

It isn't.

There's no way he's heard anything specifically about his case but the 6th year guys that have been approved so far definitely gives him hope. Has anyone heard about a 6th year guy that's been denied for next year?
