Thanks WVC. Do they have an open roster spot because of the Spike transfer?

May be premature per Chris Balas
So do we think he just jumped the gun on the announcement or do we think Matthews hasn't decided yet?

Maybe he's still mulling over his choices. Hopefully he's reconsidering the O & B.
I don't buy the PT argument in this case either. If only I had a dime for every lost recruit that this board claimed that it was because of pt and being scared of other players...
Truth is that Illinois is great opportunity for pt on multiple positions. Nunn is gone, and so will be the major mpg player, Malcolm Hill. Abrams, Tate, Mav, and Thorne will also be gone. Other than JCL, there are not many wing players who have already proven of major minutes in the rotation. So if Matthews is simply scared of pt (totally unsubstantiated IMO), I wonder why Pickett, Goodwin, Lewis, and all other wings that many think would be good fits, are not.
Bottom line, Matthews can right now choose another school for many other reasons than just being scared of pt and other players, especially given the state of our program.
Did you get an edit in there?
I'd take him, but Goodman quote from yesterday ( Mike's post) had Xavier/Michigan mentioned, so I'm not holding my breath on this one as I see no reason to believe we lead the field or are even in the race.
Not that I have heard. Can't think of the guys name right now, but he is charge of the process and was interviewed by WDWS. I believe it was the Saturday Sportsline show. As of the time MT was granted his wavier, they had not submitted at least part of the paper work on Tracy. For all the talk of how slow the NCAA was on granting MT, from the interview on WDWS it sounded like they heard back pretty quick after the application was submitted. Must be a pretty big project to make the request. Guy said that they had been putting all the effort into Mikes wavier and were just getting started on TA's.Just wondering if there is has been any news in regards to the open scholarship left by Nunn, as is relates to a possible incoming transfer?
Has Abrams' 6th year been "officially" accepted by the NCAA yet? Maybe I missed it. If so, can someone post a link. Thanks.
Thanks for the info Obelix. It still begs the question... What keeps the compliance department from having this paperwork ready to be turned in on the first day that you can possibly do so? I know we have a few guys needing this paperwork turned in, but still, it doesn't seem as if it should be that difficult.
They should be considered as some of the world's foremost authorities on the subject by now.I was wondering the same thing. Obviously the staff knows the process a lot better than you or I do, but it seems kind of strange to me that we couldn't have both ready at the same time. That being said, I guess I never realized how much work had to go into it on the program's part, so the staff deserves a ton of credit for how they handled Thorne's case.

Why rush the appeal process? I'd assume theyd want to make sure that they have everything correct and orderly so that the appeal won't have any holes or missing documentation. If they miss one thing, they're screwed. You have one chance to get it right and have to wait and see what happens. There's no bargaining or second appeal.
Who said anything about rushing the process? Tracy was out all year. Plenty of time to have that done in advance. Thorne was known midway through the season, again plenty of time to get stuff together. Also there are no other schools involved so the transcript thing is moot, or as some on here might say, mute.
I'm talking specifically about Thorne. You're saying it's plenty of time as if it's just a several page application when it's not. I brought up the transcript issue because I actually have experience with that and know that it can be a tedious and lengthy process to make sure all of the info is correct just for that. Most people think it's easy and quick, but it's far from it. I don't have experience dealing with a 6th medical waiver, but I know it's a much more complicated process trying to get documentation from doctors, staff members, and other schools involved. I could be wrong but I believe he had to get documentation from his first medical waiver since it wasn't done through the NCAA, just his conference. Good luck trusting a mid major in doing stuff correctly, they probably had to check the accuracy of all the info themselves. I know you didn't say to rush the process, but you're statement about them having plenty of time to get the stuff together implies that it could have been done sooner. Submitting the paperwork sooner than you would like is rushing the process.
With Abrams officially getting his 6th year, we still have the 1 open scholarship for this upcoming season.
What transfers are the staff looking at to replace Nunn's scholarship?
Transfer or sixth year is still a possibility, although getting smaller as time goes by. The alternative is to award it to Alex Austin for his senior year and use it on 2017 recruits moving forward.
