Is it just me or does it look like another 5 or 6 win season for the beloved this year?

The offensive skill positions got old and the o-line fell apart before they could finish retooling the defense.

Cutler is 34 and his contract starts getting expensive again after this season. And the Bears don't have anything at all in the pipeline as far as future a future QB.

I can't remember being this meh about the beginning of a Bears season. Usually, when I have lower expectations, they perform a bit better, so 3-13! #1 pick in the draft and get some fantastic franchise QB.

And Hoyer looks like Clausen 2.0 as the backup. Running game is critical for John Fox teams, and we might have the worst rushing attack in the NFC. Not impressed with the WRs, either. I understand a rebuild was in order, but it looks like the lack of attention to the O side will reap negative consequences.

Packers release Josh Sitton and Bears sign him.

Not sure if out there but @sn_nfl told that ex- @Packers G Josh Sitton has reached 3-year deal with @ChicagoBears

Lot of analysts saying Bears now have best guard tandem in the league.

Here's some more to the story behind the Gould release:

Gould basically had an equal cap hit to Gostkowski of New England but had been inconsistent. Bears end up eating $1.1 million in dead money ($600k prorated bonus + $500k guaranteed salary) and save $3 million against the cap.

I think you guys are underselling the team this year. They're better than last year. Yeah we lost a bit on offense, but the defense should be better after major improvement last year.

I think we have a shot to win 8-9 games if things break right. I still like the rebuild Pace and Fox are putting together.

If only the same could be said for the other 3 OL positions...

Gould thing seems a bit harsh, but he wasn't great last season and hasn't been good in preseason. If you take emotion out of it, it's a good decision. You can't give away points because your too attached to a player.

The front 7 on defense will be fine but I'm worried about the secondary. Not a lot of depth and fairly young.

I'm worried about the front 7 without McPhee. He's so important. Luckily olb was one of the deeper position on the roster with young, Houston and FLoyd. I'll be at game one, really excited to see how we fair.

Oh I agree. Not having McPhee til Week 7 in Green Bay is going to hurt. But they are dangerously thin aside from Porter at CB and Amos at S.

It appeared that Gould's skills were rapidly deteriorating, really not that surprised by the move. It was made much easier when a kicker they wanted became available.

I was more optimistic, prior to the pre-season games. I know I shouldn't put a lot of emphasis on practice games, with little game plan, but they looked bad.

Such a weird vibe to start the season. To listen to the pundits, we are either going to win 10 games or only 5. It will likely fall someplace in between, but it would be nice if they could take advantage of the favorable schedule.

The latest personnel moves were good, but Kyle Long is not healthy and I would be surprised if he makes it past week one. If JJ Watt is even close to his old self I could see him abusing this o-line and possibly knocking Cutler out for the season. Even if Cutler makes it, Kevin White is hobbled and Alshon is a soft tissue injury away from sitting. Who is left to throw to? A tight end that has not practiced yet and Eddie Royal. :tsk:
I am hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.

Yeah I mean Kyle Long can't recover from his shoulder injury but you know JJ Watt is invincible so that back surgery he had in July can't possibly slow him down. :tsk:

I'm seeing power rankings all over the place putting the Bears as one of the 5 worst teams in the NFL. Sorry, but that isn't happening not with this coaching staff. This team will compete and keep improving.

They still have a couple years to go in the rebuilding process, but they really do have a realistic shot at the playoffs this year.

So basically you think the entire offense is going to be injured? Got it

Not quite what I said. Kyle Long, Hroniss Grasu, and Kevin White are injured. Alshon Jeffrey has a history of soft tissue injuries. The offensive line is a work in progress. There is no real depth on the o-line or in the receiving corps. These are just the facts.

The only real stretch was not really a stretch at all, and that is Cutler being hit repeatedly by one of the most dominant pass rushers of the past couple of years, and I even qualified it. :thumb:
