... IU (and Purdue and ND) have certainly lost a lot of in-state kids, but they have done well nation-wide to make up for it.
I'm curious as to where this notion that Purdue has recruited well comes from... They currently have ten scholarship players... TEN!! And only 1 commit so far for 2017 (the aforementioned Matt Haarms).

My post was talking about IU specifically when I said "has recruited well out-of-state." However, the other point is that despite having three high-majors in-state (4 if you include Butler), the top Indiana players have been leaving the state in droves.

Unfortunately this is how I feel as well. Wilkes is obviously listening to Groce's pitch but IU has the home state school advantage.

This may be the case, we very well may be the underdog, but JG will keep fighting to get him. If he does get him...great! If not, glad he tried and lets go after the next one.

We need to show some love for Mayan Kiir coming this weekend. A 4-star guy who told Derek Piper he's excited about his visit and wants fans to be ready for him. Bring him on!!!

Looks like decent weather for the weekend. I know it sounds trivial but some nasty weather can impact a visit. I know I wouldn't want to come from Florida and be on campus on a dark, rainy cold weekend. Everything seems nicer on a sunny, crisp fall day. Feels very collegiate.

I guess I shouldn't have targeted your post specifically, but over the last few months or so, I've seen a few posts here and there that mention Purdue as having good recruiting. I think the thought process people went through was "Oh, they got Swanigan. They must be recruiting well" without actually realizing that Purdue hasn't gotten anyone else.

IU has only had 1 top 50 recruit in the last 2 years. De'Ron Davis @ #41. BTW, he is out of state.

I haven't felt that "home" state has been given much weight at all. I think it varies by recruit as to the importance of a "home school". Now with someone like Malcolm Hill, it made a difference because he was a fan from day 1. With others it is probably on the list but the impact on the decision is slight to none. I don't know if Wilkes has talked about staying at home or being a fan of Indiana, but if he hasn't, my assumption is that it probably wouldn't be a large factor.

This quote from one of the Hoosier message boards is just hilarious. :D
"Wilkes can play what ever position he wants. If Groce is going that route, they are desperate." LOL

Boy did the Jacob Epperson and Abu Kigab talk die down quickly.

Haven't heard hardly anything about either one since they visited. Either they are keeping it very quiet or nobody is posting any inside info. Got anything?

Long way to go with Epperson. He's still sorting out the college landscape and what's what. Kigab is visiting California this weekend and has been considered Oregon's to lose since the git-go. Not much more to hear at the present.

Hammons, Smotherman, Davis, Scott, Stephens, Johnson, Simpson and Haas were all 4 star recruits. Edwards was highly thought of before slipping a bit in the ratings.

Hammons, Davis, and Johnson were all 5 years ago, a bit long to be considered relevant still. And Johnson, Stephens, and Scott were so happy with their decisions that they all transferred.

My point is, if they hadn't gotten Swanigan, they would be in big trouble, with seemingly no back-up plans.

Illinois has the same amount of top 100 players (5) as Purdue from 2013 to 2016. Just throwing that out there..

And I think most people would rate our overall recruiting fairly poorly in that span.

Eh? This discussion started with how Crean had been recruiting in state, he's been around longer than 5 years so not sure why you're arbitrarily setting time frames.

And Johnson, Stephens, and Scott were so happy with their decisions that they all transferred.

Irrelevant to the topic.

Oh, THAT was your point?
