2016 White Sox

Not averse to moving Sale, because the Sox are at least a couple seasons from contending. They'll have to get a king's ransom though. Sounds like Boston may back up the truck.

Living in Boston, it's difficult to predict what this team will do. The fans are angry. They want a top of the rotation starter. However, Sale is way down their list of candidates. The fans prefer someone with "postseason experience". With that not really being available, they are willing to "settle" for Sale.

I think the FO will acquire someone from what the sports media here are saying, and most of them are in on Sale. However, I'm not sure what the White Sox will get for him. I think that a package of Benintendi, Moncada, and Koepech is unlikely.

One interesting play, that I think could happen if Reinsdorf was willing to open his wallet a bit, is to take David Price and prospects for Sale. The fans here hate Price and I would expect the FO to try and move him. By taking that contract off of the Red Sox hands (and they'd likely eat some depending on the prospects they give up), we can stay relatively competitive in the short term and potentially acquire a couple of prospects that are 2 years away. And we might also be able to add a young guy who can help but not be a major impact player right now.

And, I'm wondering if there is a bigger possibility here. What if we sent the Red Sox Sale and a bat to replace Ortiz? What could we get for a Sale-Abreu package. Price, Benintendi, Moncada, and perhaps a couple of more prospects? What about Sale-Melky? These moves would benefit both teams I think.

I don't know how motivated Boston is given all of their top prospects, but I'd spend a lot of time talking with Boston this winter. The other team to talk to is the Yankees. If they think a top SP puts them over the top, get them into a bidding war with the Red Sox.

Pass on Price. If they are moving Sale, its about young low cost players in return. Not some young guys and someone else's problem. We already have that in Shields.

I don't think they can get Moncada, and Benintendi in the same deal, but I do think they could get Benintendi and Devers. Add in Kopech and I'm sure Hahn will want more added to it.

I know everyone would want Sale, but looking over teams prospects, I don't think a lot of teams qualify for what the sox are looking for, as well as being willing to trade for a front end ace/win now team.

The nice part of this is that the other team I see going for Sale would be the Yankees. And a Boston/New York bidding war could help include Moncada if push came to shove.

It's interesting to think that the Yanks finding their footing in the 2nd half could pay huge dividends for us.

I don't know that I would trade for price, but to compare him to shields is ridiculous.

The reason Price is somewhat enticing is that you'd have the opportunity to maintain a very good rotation. It only works however if Boston views it as a salary dump and includes interesting prospects. It could allow us to get prospects and stay the course simultaneously. But it depends on the Boston FO being very frustrated. And I think that is much more likely than getting all of the prospects you want.

New so I can't create thread - Hopefully sound some baseball knowledge!

Hey there, have a question about the rules pertaining to catcher's equipment. I was wondering about the difference between the full, hockey-style mask and the old-school style that goes over the skull cap. I recently purchased the facemask style that goes over the skull cap for my son who has recently picked up catching a big way. I got him this mask but a few of the parents at our workouts have made comments about some regulations or rules I was unaware of. In my nervousness, I just ordered this mask as well that looks a lot safer but I know it doesn't have that cool pro look my son wants. Should I bring both with me just in case? Or does anyone know how this aspect of the game is governed? Anything helps!

It really depends on the league. My son plays in two different leagues, one little league affiliated and the other is AAU. They have different requirements for their masks. But most leagues are moving toward the hockey style. The one issue is that certain leagues will still require a separate throat protector. But you should ask the coach - he should know what the requirements are for your league.

I suppose it depends on the league. I'm 99% sure that Little League requires a helmet for catchers (no skull caps) with the NOSCAE stamp. I doubt there are any other youth leagues that would allow that first one, but you can ask. Return it if you can.

Warms my damn heart that the White Sox thread is the one an individual would pick when in search of "baseball knowledge".

Rumor that the Astros want to start a package around Alex Bregman.

Bregman/McCullers/AJ Reed?

It should definitely get Hahn's attention and given serious consideration. He had a rough start, but I really like A.J Reed still. I also like Joe Musgrove in their system too.

Just texted a buddy this might be a Sox fan's (at least this Sox fan) worst nightmare, Cleveland v. Cubs in World Series. Ouch

Cub fans, this would be like a Sox-Cardinals World Series ( for most of you)

Worst nightmare for me would be Cubs versus either:

A. The Twins, because...the Twins
B. The Red Sox, because there is not a measuring device on Earth powerful enough to record the combined levels of douchebaggery that would be generated by those two fanbases. Plus, ESPN headquarters in Bristol would implode in a gigantic fireball of hyperbole.

My wife is from Ohio and a big Indians fan so I'll happily jump aboard the bandwagon for a week.

This is hilarious.

My biggest nightmare is the Cubs in the World Series with Sale or Quintana, which looked like a feasible possibility for a second there.

It's been a while since I was in Chicago, but I think Red Sox fans are far worse. They are terrible. They're so bad, they make me want to see the Yankees win just to upset them.

I hope what happened on the north side of town has zero impact on the decision the Sox make. Id like to see them rebuild, but I still get those "if they can sign this guy, maybe the lineup looks a lot better" thoughts in my head.

the Cubs winning the WorldSeries is the best thing that could have happened to a White Sox fan if they want Reinsdorf et al to get serious again. Just like the Sox winning it 11 years ago was a positive thing, its just that , at that point, the Tribune ownership was already handcuffing the GM and President for totally other reasons.

Don't fear the Cubs success , embrace it, as it will pay dividends for you guys too.

Long term, I think the Sox really need a new owner.

I think Jerry not being serious or caring is misguided. The Sox are his baby. If he didn't care, they pay role would be a lot less. He simply has stuck to a plan that yes won him a world series, but is no longer working.

The opportunity to get better for a long time is there. Will they take it?

That seems very reasonable. Call Eaton your Rizzo and try to mimic the Cubs rebuild. I'd keep Q this year and then decide next offseason if the team will be ready in '20 - if yes, keep him; if no, trade him.

Would the fans have the patience for a full teardown? On one hand, frustrating when the Cubs are good, on the other, the Cubs are good because they did that.
