If you don't think Wilkes has chosen UCLA, what explains Brian Bowen's hasty cancellation of his visit to UCLA? I can't stand Alford, but he's no fool.

It was Cause of the suit case full of money he saw ay AZ PLUS the fact Wilkes isn't going to UCLA and they had thoughts of playing together there. Bowen had no talk at all about UCLA till Wilkes talked about going there

Don't forget Verge.:)

I know people don't agree with it, but you can't save a scholly if a player of Verge's caliber wants to commit. When you are trying to bring a program back from the dead you take all the talent you can get.

Even if we have 2 Schollys Verge will not be getting one. we will not take another Guard and very doubtful we would take a SF except for Wilkes, we need guys at the 4 and 5 and if we cant get any be it Kiir , Epps Wooten or someone who might pop up or 5th year or trans they will just be held. if this is the case you will see a bigger push for Finke to commit and a big push for one of the 3 PGs in 2018 as well as searching for a big

He isn't likely to qualify, so it's kind of moot.

Yeah, this is similar to the LoVett situation in some ways. The kid has the skills to play, but it is pretty obvious that he is not going to qualify.

Groce has consistently recruited a quality big man transfer since he has been here (McLaurin, Ekey, Thorne, Paul). One obviously had off the court issues.

I think he will have sufficient time to locate that player to complement Tilmon. I'm not yet counting us out of some of the current big men (Kiir, Epperson), then again I don't have primo info.

Except that Lovett qualified.

No, he was a partial qualifer which means he can enroll and basically sit out a year to get his grades in order. He can't play this year. Plus he loses a year of eligibility and has 4 years to play 3 years.

If he thinks he's a one and done it may not matter much.

Yeah, I have no idea what he thinks, but there are certainly a lot of players in that top-25 ranking tier that think they're one-n-done, that simply aren't going to be a high draft pick after 1 year. They may not even stick if they go too early. Harder still if they haven't developed physically (especially bigs). It's easy to get bad advice or be impatient.

He sat out last year. He'll play this year.

I'd really like another big in this class and I was really hoping we could land Wooten, but it seems everyone jumped on that train in a hurry. It's crazy that 247 had him outside the top 200 last year, he reclassifies, and now he gets a ton of Power 5 offers including Arizona. Epperson won't decide until the spring and Kiir seems to be leaning away from us. I guess there could always be a player who suddenly pops during the winter like a Ben Moore.

Think about this possible starting lineup. Tejon, JCL, Wilkes, Leron, and Tilmon

We all did already. That's why some here allowed themselves to get too excited over this recruitment when we were a long shot the whole time. Would have been awesome, though.

Now there's a throwback name of an illini target I haven't heard abut in a while... good stuff.
I always thought it would have been funny if he and Abu Kigab has gone to the same school. There's probably some low ranked 1* out there named Jafaar too if you look hard enough.
