I do think Fox is a poor head coach, but I'm surprised that Pace seems to be getting such a pass right now. The product on the field should not still be this bad beginning year three of a rebuild. The only thing Pace has accomplished in two plus years is finally drafting a qb high in the first round who looks like he might be pretty good. This is still an overall poor roster.

I agree that the roster is very poor, but the cupboard was completely bare when he got the job. It will take years to get this roster where it needs to be and having a first round pick that you were counting on as a building block be a bust due to injuries makes the task that much harder. The majority of Pace's picks are either performing, or being held back .
He just needs a whole lot more of them.

The problem that I saw against Tampa was not having a real wide receiver threat. Tampa had success both in stacking the box against the run, and in coverage. Tough to overcome.

I would just make a couple of points in response....the nfl system is set up for quick turn-arounds through free agency-his free agent signings have not been very good. In response to his draft picks performing or being held back, his 2015 draft is already almost a complete wipeout.

I'm not giving Pace a pass. This is year three and there's less talent on the roster than when he got there. There's no clear direction and it's hard to tell whether he thinks they're supposed to be competing this year or rebuilding.

Fair enough. You might want to consider that Trevathan, Freeman, Hicks, and Miller were all free agent signings and are all major contributors.

The 2015 draft was unfortunately almost a complete wipeout, but I cant put the blame on Pace for injuries to Kevin White, Grassu, and Jeremy Langford. That is 3 of his top 4 picks and Goldman is showing presence up front.

Not trying to be a blind supporter of Pace, but, like Lovie, he just needs more time and a little better luck with injuries. Oh great, now I sound like a John Groce apologist....

Why do you say this? I think it's obvious he understands we aren't ready to win. He got rid of our QB, RB, TE, and WR. And those 4 guys were our most talented on the team (and most expensive). Plus he didn't replace them with any impactful free agents.

I think the direction is clear. Draft and build a good, young core. Once that young core is established through the draft, then reinforce it with bigger free agent signings. Easier said than done. Is it working right now? Too early to completely tell, much more will be known in December.

Just as John Fox is ready to retire, says the Bears' pessimist in me.

You can't convince me that he didn't think he would at least have a competitive team in year three though. This process is taking too long. Are you telling me he signed Glennon and didn't think he would be "impactful?" He did replace Forte with Howard. He got rid of an all-pro level tight end for virtually nothing two years ago and has not replaced him. He got rid of two big-time recievers (or did not re-sign them) and has not replaced them. The ridiculous planning behind that was that Kevin White would come back after two years of being hurt and become a no.1 receiver. Please. This is all a hot mess.

Martellus Bennett was a problem in the locker room and had worn out his welcome. Brandon Marshall wanted to be in New York so he could tape Inside the NFL every week. Alshon Jeffery wanted out of Chicago and this is a known fact.

The situation isn't ideal that Pace got but he had quite a mess to clean up from what Phil Emery left.

Exactly. And this is part of the plan. Like it or not, Pace has decided to strip the team down before building back up. Yes, he signed Glennon to be a placeholder until Trubisky is ready. He definitely didn't sign Glennon to win football games, there are better QB's out there that we could've went after. Same with Kevin White, they didn't get rid of Alshon because they thought Kevin White could fill his shoes. They got rid of Alshon because he was a lot more expensive that White.

The team is not ready to contend, so there is no point in throwing cash at guys. This team could've definitely been built to win 8 or 9 games, maybe even get into the playoffs. But the money it would've cost to do it would make it temporary and what good will that do? The way Pace is trying to do it will take longer, but if it's done right will set the Bears up for many years of success. Just look at the Cheeseheads up North if you want a perfect example.

That doesn't make any sense. If Glennon was only to be a place holder for Trubisky and there were better free agent qb's to go after, then why pay Glennon more than any other free agent qb received? If you wanted a guy just to play for year, you could have resigned Cutler or Hoyer for cheaper. Or just sign Sanchez and play him for $2 million.

Why do you say this?.

Illiniaaron answered the question the way I would have, but I'd add the boatload of free agent defensive backs they spent a ton of money on and the fact that they traded up this year to get their future QB instead of just waiting until next year when there will be more pro-ready QBs available in the top 5, also show that the Bears thought they were going to be better this year than they are.

Bears up 17-7 at half.

In spite of the bonehead play by Marcus Cooper, Bears D has looked good and gotten turnovers. Bears run game with Howard looking pretty good as well.

Did the Steelers really not come out for the Anthem? Haven't followed up on that since seeing it earlier today.

A win's a win. Even with the WRs with just one catch the entire game.

I know people are gonna call BS on what I'm about to say but I don't care. I had a feeling that if the Bears were gonna win this game, it was gonna be because of how Big Ben plays on the road, especially against inferior teams. Plus there's also the fact that this was gonna be a look ahead game for the Steelers as they travel to Baltimore next Sunday.

What was the official ruling on Cohen stepping out on the 37? Replay looked like he didn't, but maybe not enough to overrule. Would have been a nice highlight run to win it.

For whatever reason, the Steelers are definitely a different team on the road...have been for a few years now.

My question is if the talent level is so bad for the Bears, then why do people hate Fox so much? This team is competitive more weeks than not, should we be complementing Fox for doing more with less?

They called it as the play stands with him being out of bounds at the 37. And yeah there wasn't enough to overrule the call on the field.

I think it's more that they are competitive in spite of Fox. A lot of his in-game coaching decisions can be questionable at times.

Believe it or not, this is the first game the Bears have won in September under John Fox.

Yeah I didn’t think ben looked sharp today. A lot of bad throws early. If they hit we’re screwed. But then again, we literally gave them 4 points back. Just a really ugly, different type of game. We were lucky. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good.
