The Bears side of the box score looks like a game from the 1970s.

They won today, but i’m not sure you can consistently win in the NFL today by running 38 times and only throwing it 22. Teams that only get 3.5 yards per pass play (when sacks are taken into account) don’t usually win.

I can’t believe how the Steelers kept letting Glennon check down to the rb over and over again for 5 or 6 yard gains. I can’t see anyone letting that happen again.

Agreed on all points.

Gonna be interesting to see how they do on a short week traveling to Green Bay.

If you'd have told me after these first 4 games that the Bears would be 1-3 I would have been thrilled with that start especially considering who they were going to be playing.

If teams take away the check down routes, that should mean shorter, intermediate routes should be available.

Didn't see game, but from highlights I saw it looked like the Steelers did a poor job of tackling after the check down.

As bad as our offense still is. We should be 2-1 right now. Our defense is pretty solid.

For whatever reason, the Steelers are definitely a different team on the road...have been for a few years now.

My question is if the talent level is so bad for the Bears, then why do people hate Fox so much? This team is competitive more weeks than not, should we be complementing Fox for doing more with less?
Almost all NFL games are competitive. The bottom line is that the Bears are only 10-25 under Fox, and he strikes many as not being a very good in-game coach. I would argue that the Bears actually looked very undisciplined yesterday but somehow managed to win.

I've always been one to say that there are no style points in football, and every win is precious, especially if you are a Bears or Illini fan. But I do feel that yesterday's game said a lot more about the Steelers than it did about the Bears. The Steelers are such a bad road team. Is any coach doing less with more than Mike Tomlin? Also it showed how you can wear out a team by committing to the run. The running game got better gradually as the game went on. In the overtime the Steeler D was like tissue paper. The Bears had like four runs for about 75 yards and a TD to close it out.

Bears down 21-7 at half.

Glennon was god awful and it would be nothing short of a shock if Trubisky isn't the starter Week 5 at home on Monday night vs. the Vikings.

Defense has been okay but have let up a couple plays they shouldn't have.

I almost don’t wanna play Mitch. He has nobody to throw to. He can at least make stuff happen with his legs, but I think that will be limited cause nfl guys are all fast

This isn't 20/20 hindsight. The decision to sign Glennon for the amount of money they did - $16.5 million this year - was bizarre at the time. The way he's playing and the offense they are running make it even more bizarre.

The question really isn't whether Trubisky would be any better. The question is whether Brian Hoyer ($6m) or Josh McCown ($6m) or Case Keenum ($2) or whatever other QB they picked up off the free agent scrap heap would have been worse.

This isn't baseball where the fan can just shrug their shoulders over money the owner has dumped down the drain. There's a salary cap here. Money wasted is money that could have been used to improve the team in other areas. Wide receiver, for example.

Luckily, only $18.5 million of the total $45 million contract is guaranteed.

Before seeing him this year. A lot of analysts and players said Glennon was going to be great. Clearly they were wrong.

Giving him that money didnt really hurt our cap. I’m pretty sure we still have like $30 million in space available.

Our wr core looks a lot better with Cam Meredith. That was a huge loss. Also, part of that is I think it’s clear that Glennon is not a qb that makes his wr better. He doesn’t throw them open. Heck, he can barely throw it to them at all. He misses open guys left and right and throws to the one guy double covered and or just dumps it off underneath for 4 yards on 3rd and 9. If he even throws it. He’s a statue in the pocket. So the question is, can Trubisky make his wr’s better? Well he can’t do any worse than Glennon so...

1. Another road game, another game the bears come out totally unprepared to play.
2. Glennon is not good. Understatement of the year.
3. These might be the worst set of wide receivers ever assembled. "Mr. Drops" Bellamy drops a huge pass at the two yard line. Thompson has a ball hit off his shoulder in the end zone. All the receivers hit the ground immediately after catch whether a defender is there or not.
4. This is just a poorly coached team. Horrible penalties. A horrible head-to-head shot by Trevathan and he's talking smack with a player laying unconscious at his feet. Jordan Howard taking garbage time carries with a bad shoulder. Bears waste an entire fourth quarter running out the clock instead of working on the passing game.
5. Whitehair is having a terrible season so far with penalties and bad snaps in every game.
6. Barth Vadar needs to be cut.

Thank you for also seeing how bad Whitehair has been, I thought I was the only one.
Serious question for all fans who want to see Trubisky.
Would Trubisky cure any or all of the 6 points above?

No, but he would help with the post above that one :D

I am in the boat of waiting. Call me gun shy, but I don't want to potentially ruin this kid's future by getting him killed, or destroying his confidence. I realize it is not the best reasoning, but as I said, just a little tentative about throwing him to the wolves.

No particular reason to go out of their way to get Trubisky reps in the system of an OC likely to be unemployed 3 months from now.

I think it could be argued a good QB helps cure almost anything.
Specifically it would cure #2. And #3..A good QB raises the play of his wide outs. From what I saw last night, they fall down all the time after making a catch because they barely have the ball thrown to them in stride or are constantly having to reach one way or another and make catches off balance.

I don't think Mitch-A-Palooza cures the Bears enough to be a playoff team. But as long as the o-line can keep him safe, I would like to see him learn on the job.

I wanna see what his mobility really looks like against first team defensive guys. Glennon is a statue. If Mitch can buy time when necessary or scramble for a few here and there I’ll be happy that part of his game translated and the rest he can work on.

#172
Dan Pompei in his postgame observations put it perfectly. If you don't start Trubisky next Monday night, then you start Mark Sanchez. Glennon has proven that he can't succeed and if the Bears think that Trubisky still isn't ready then you have to go to Sanchez. A QB change has to be made even if it's not going to Trubisky.

The biggest worry I'd have with starting Trubisky if he's ready is the defenses he plays the next 3 weeks (vs. Minnesota, @ Baltimore, vs. Carolina).

Vikings seem to have a pretty good rush D. If they stop the run and Mitch is forced to pass in his first game, could get ugly.
