Some of staff's tools were taken away from them 10 days ago.

This is pretty much true for every university in the country, though. Whether we or any other particular program was doing it is irrelevant. The important fact is that now it's substantially riskier for any program to try it, not just us.

Can't wait to see how well he plays at Arizona State.

Ok. So we are now focusing on...

Ayo
Valtonen
THT
?

Anyone else?

Joe Henricksen has said this about THT twice in the last week and nobody is contradicting him:

Illinois is on the outside looking in.

Joe's not always right and things change, but he knows more than anybody on this board.

Sincerely, some days, I think the best thing that could happen to Illini Basketball Recruiting would be an immediate shutdown of the Illinois Loyalty Board. That's no lie.

There's a whole forest behind those trees.

(I don't mean Wake Forest, Ayo.)

Are you suggesting that we can no longer pay players? I'm a little confused by what "tools" you are referencing.

Also confused as to why someone would think that's a good idea to post on a board like this.

Illinois is on the outside looking in on everyone. And we will probably miss on Finke now too while we were chasing others.

I am not paying any more attention to AYO, THT, the Fin, etc...; I get the next man up mentality, but the signs are pointing away from us, so please stop "lean" posting the next and best name as it only fuels the flames of temporary recruiting bliss, which will more than probably end up as a sack blast. I so wish I could ban myself from this site, but I can't. If we get one of the three then I will be happy, but the little voices in my head are telling me we go 0 for.

Whatever, we have a talented group who will be taking the court pretty soon, albeit; a talented core with a lot of question marks. If the stars align we could shock many people, if inexperience plays out then it will be another ho hum, Cubbies, wait til next year season.

No matter what happens, there is NOTHING any of us here can do but hope, pray, and believe great times are ahead. Until then, it is what it is, and we are striking out more than Sammy Sosa before the juice, one day the homeruns will come!

Another extremely good idea was the post educating us about all the reasons nobody should sign here.

Generally, I think this board has agreed with this idea. The question is whether that is a permanent state or can we work our way back into contention? I haven't seen this addressed yet.

The worst that could happen:

1. We get no one or some 3* unheard guards from recruiting.
2. Mark Smith leads the team but we miss the tourney. Smith goes pro.
3. Finke and Black see no hope and both go on grad transfer route.

No joke, I would use it on Kezo Brown with all kinds of contigencies. What a great PR move for Illinois and CPL. We don't use our 13th man anyhow. Time to get some positive momentum in this program.

Take a look at his twitter...he's obviously troubled right now and I hope he finds his way...but I don know what contingencies you can put on him to make you feel comfortable with bringing him into the fold.

When free speech meets internet and plenty of time. 😂

No one is a possibility.

Very possible MV and EV know each other and have played against each other in FIBA or other scheduled European games. So, bring on the international pipeline for the Illini. :thumb:

No way. Best of luck to the young man in his recovery and getting his life together, but that would be an absolute terrible decision.

Re Valtonen and other Euros/foreign players, the University of Illinois brand (academically speaking) still garners a lot of respect. If Underwood wants to market us to athletes there he may do well.

Seems to be a pretty good strategy for another school, heavy Euro recruiting, mixed in with some talent say from Chicago on occasion....Gonzaga has done quite well with this model. In fact so well, they are considered a better basketball school than we are currently.
