And we’ve gotten how many really great Simeon players since Deon...?

I’m fine casting our lot with Mac Irvin. Maybe we’re ultimately just trading one second-banana pipeline for another, but if we can get a few of the guys that MIF has in the pipeline, it’ll be worth it.

Exactly. Irvin's are working with us to acquire their top talent.

Simeon never did that. They sent us their leftovers.

Yeah, I think BU did the best possible in this situation, but this still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I feel like Simeon and Robert Smith has done their best to send players to Illinois but again, not blue chip talent. If MIF is saying they're going to steer more 5* our way (especially with Chin) then this is the right move. Big boy recruiting fellas, we better get use to it :chief:

Again, bring on the MIF recruits. Simeon pipeline? lol

Robert Smith has given us Calvin Brock, DJ Williams, Kendrick Nunn, and Jaylon Tate over the past 10 years. I'd much much rather be in the Irvin's corner than in Smith's corner. Hell Irvins helped us more in one year than Simeon did in the past 10.

and Simeon's best player in the past 10 years Jabari never even gave us a look...

LOL'ing at all the fans who in one breath say "we want to compete with the blue bloods" in recruiting and consistent success, but then can't handle the hot stove that is Chicago recruiting.
This is what it is.
You asked for it. You got it. Get over it.:illinois:

Seriously, these people drive me crazy. This IS THE STATE OF COLLEGE BASEKTBALL. You make accommodations for top players.

There is middle ground here. There is no reason for this to be the way it is

Honestly BU just got too optimistic about making this work, clearly underestimated how deep this went

MIF player. Would have rather been in with the Irvins on that recruitment as well. Sonny drove that recruitment but may have had a better shot.

Once again THT had an offer for over 6 months, he risked losing it. Guess what he lost it. You guys get butt hurt so easily, how do you think life works. Risk/Reward, but you guys want the free lunch.

I sometimes sell stock earlier than I want and miss the upside, sometimes I overpay for real estate I don't want to lose. But I do my risk/reward calculation mixed with my own misery index. My kid plays for a travel soccer team whose coach is the varsity coach of the school she will attend. Do you think getting into a pissing contest with him is high on my agenda? THT quit the team and him and his parents never smoothed the situation with MIF/Ayo Family.

All fine and good, but IMHO staff should have known this and cut ties with Tucker once Ayo committed..

Brining him n for an ov looks bad.

So what happens in the future when Miller and all the other 5* players on MIF decide to go to Kansas and Duke? The Irvins can't really dictate where their players want to go play

I agree but they shouldnt dictate who Illinois takes

That is not true, at least not if you believe coach Smith, Weber had a chance maybe not great but Groce had 0 chance

It is true. Brock, Tate, Williams, Nunn.... that is object fact.

Do you remember how beloved Simeon had Derek Rose play us during his recruiting as to keep the pressure on Memphis? Had him visit one day before he committed to Memphis? They used us as a pawn.

I'm going in the corner with the Irvins. Simeon has given us nothing but their leftovers.

I HIGHLY doubt the any scholarship offer was pulled five hours before his announcement. I too went to lunch with all being well, then returned to chaos.

My assumption is that there was no chaos needed. Something came out early in the week that everybody sprinting in one direction, now something came out today to the contrary.

There is no way a kid gets his offer pulled while he's at school, hours before cameras go on.

Finally some semblance of reason. No one thought he was coming here a week ago. And then everybody was convinced it was a locked up done deal. And now he's definitely not coming and it's all the Irvin's fault. There are so many possible reasons for however this plays out they're not even worth listing. Also because they would all be speculation used to let the soft majority feel better bu having someone to praise or blame.

These fans that are trashing Ayo and the Irvins need to go. We land our highest rated recruit since Dee Brown and now they are turning on the player and on the coaches that helped us in the situation. Shame on them. Perhaps they will celebrate when they attack Ayo enough so that he does nto feel welcome. From lurking on the Wake board it seems the Wake coaches are already keeping a pulse on the situation.

This is recruiting. We, as a program, make all the accommodations we can to attract said recruit. I have no problem with it, what so ever.

Oh calm down. I'm not being serious. I'll definitely be happy with a *5 PG. I don't get so into this stuff that I post to kids. Haha, that's just nonsense in my opinion.

Seriously though...you don't think there is any possibility that very situation could happen? You would be lying to yourself if you think not. This avoidable situation should be all you need to know.

I am laughing a little at the outrage here. No doubt about it, this situation sucks for THT (if he really did want to attend Illinois) and has a bad look to it. But how many of us on here for years have repeatedly harped on needed to work a little in the "grey area" of recruiting? Welcome to the grey area, folks, where power plays and tit-for-tat politics in the AAU can play a role in current and future recruiting for years.

It's a bad look for a number of people involved right now, but if it helps us finally make inroads with the Irvins, who coach a ton of the best in-state talent, then it can still be a long-term win for us, even if it looks kind of crappy now. That's the calculus the staff is likely using.

Other than Ayo, who hasn't signed yet, who has MIF given us?

Honest question.

Something changed within the past 24 hours. To think otherwise is to ignore the obvious circumstantial evidence.

No one. That's sort of the point. The whole idea here is to basically throw them a bone with the idea that our relationship with them improves from "nonexistent" to "we have a chance now" with their big fish.
