I believe this has been stated previously, but I am OK with the staff bringing 4/5* talent in for OV every time it presents itself. It's the mid-level guys we use an OV on that then go elsewhere. Those feel like wasted visits we could bank for later on.

I'm gonna let him answer that for me.

Sounds like "Shoo-bway".

Unbelievable to me some on this board questioning official visits to 5-star talents???!!!!!!????? Not talking about you ILL in IA. Simply mind boggling. Nothing the staff will do will ever make some of you happy!

To be honest, not many are questioning bringing in 5-star talent while the OVs are getting set up or taking place. Very rare, because deep inside everyone hopes we get them, even when chances are against us.

But the unfortunate thing is that many will question those visits and classify them as wasted time, if we do not close on them. That actually happened with Groce. Not many questioned bringing in DJax, Brunson, Evans, Cliff, Elijah or others when those visits were taking place. But quite a few people claimed that Groce wasted much time chasing the high ranked players and it was the wrong strategy.

In retrospect, recruiting is easy. But in reality, recruiting strategy is hardly a differentiator, ability to close always is.

That's it, cut off all connections to Shannon. We want guys who WANT to be at Illinois, not fair-weather-recruits willing to listen to other pitches like this.
HARD PASS.

So you don't like the part of recruiting where the kids gather information on what's available to them?

Look, this is easy...after the 3 show up at the school just ground all flights, put up road blocks, lock all the doors, and don't let anyone out until we get 3 signed LOI's.

Slightly more seriously...if we got verbals from all 3 and they all signed in the early signing period, what the heck would we all do on this board until the 2020's start solidifying?
Pretty sure we'd still find new stuff to argue about, or new ways to argue about old stuff...especially faced with the alternative of giving 100% at our respective jobs.

I think it would old stuff to argue in new ways....and old ways to argue new stuff, but who am I to be argumentative. :sneaky:

If we didn't sign that guy we could have had another five star!

I didn't know if any of you saw Deon Thomas tweet at EJ Liddell after EJ put his top 3 out....

Stay home big fella, I have a record in Champaign that needs to be broken. I want to make the call like another Illini great Eddie Johnson did for me when I became the All-Time Leading. Go Illini!

I might have been off by a year, but they had a strong track record during his recruitment. Plus he committed early, so probably didn't see that coming. And I agree with you about hating losing recruits to them.

I agree. Calipari has an in-home this evening with Wiseman. If he does not commit this evening, I doubt he does before Oscar T's visit. But at the same time, it is doubtful that Oscar T commits before seeing what Wiseman does.
That makes sense on why UK hasn't offered, but I feel like they could convince th
They were top 10 in the country the season before he committed and top 10 after he committed. Plus, despite being 45 minutes from Champaign, BloNo isn't really pro-Illini. It's rather neutral. I don't like it but there's quite a bit of tOSU in Central Illinois, even before KBD committed.
