If Liddell goes elsewhere, I'm sure there will be fans calling for Walker's head. However, the onus should be on Underwood here.

Much like we see comments about Antigua or Coleman not pulling their weight in recruiting, I would say the same for Walker. Groce leaving threw a wrench in the mix a little bit but all he has done is helped close Mark Smith but couldn't keep him here. Couldn't hold on to Pickett or Tilmon. I guess he helped with Malcolm Hill way back when? He has not helped us to capitalize in St. Louis or Missouri/Kansas as expected. Everything ultimately falls on Underwood so I'm fine with that position too. We just need to get back to being a tournament team and this high-level recruiting will be much easier.

So, what's the answer to our recruiting woes. We keep hosting these great players but miss on 95% of them. (Thankful for Ayo). It feels like we're not much more than a mid-major. What do we do?

His article seems pretty good. He admits he just doesn't know, and believes tOSU to be the leader despite the roster competition. Mizzou has a good shot and just accepted a friend's commit. I'm of the same opinion --either wouldn't surprise me, but I'd put my money on tOSU.

Realizing May was a long time ago, but hasn't he visited at least twice with Randolph, including the weekend of his official? And Ayo's mom didn't work in competition with Kentucky, but Brea Beal is a lot younger.

I don't put a lot of faith in the Misery article conclusion, where the premises is that the writer's own credited sources claim any of the three. Conclusion seems is just the writer's hopeful hate for the Chief.

Sounds like, nobody knows. Credible arguments for all. All I know, from my insider's view, is that we are better off here that KSU and Wisky; at least until we're not.

I’m just amazed at how Illinois doesn’t get a higher percentage of Illinois kids. U of M and MSU get the majority of high level Michigan kids, so there is an issue with Illinois that needs analysis

Patience young grasshopper. We’ll get ours. Our staff is still pretty new.

You are wrong. About 100% gurus think it is OSU.

For some recruits this matters. I’m not sure Liddell is one of those recruits. He seems to throw lots of curveballs when discussing his top 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if he accepts an offer at a 4th school or even if he goes to the school everyone says he is not going to

CU is nothing like Chicago or the Chicago area. Southern Illinois is more southern than Illinois. Both Ann Arbor and Lansing are metropolitan areas

Agree you need to win.

Tired of hearing it takes time and the new coach (coach after coach - kinda of like the football nightmare) needs to incorporate his style. Other places & other coaches have done it, so what’s the problem here ? We’ve been whiffing for almost 15 years. It’s on Underwood & ALL the staff for whiffing like we do on 99% of all these top recruits we are after.

The dreaded "not the last visit" comment. We had been Liddell's last visit and everyone complained about how being last was dangerous cause he could commit earlier. Can't win.
I feel like you didn’t read the original post.
You can never plan if you’re going to be the last visit but what I’m saying is that it would be more of a positive if he didn’t take any more so because of that it’s naturally a negative that he’s taking one. He likely wouldn’t be taking a visit if his decision was set.

We have very little brand value outside of Illinois and St Louis, and even within the state, it depends. This goes for both the program and the coach. This is why the blue bloods can swoop in and get Chicago’s best. They win consistently and their players get drafted. Similar can be said for coaches, even for relative beginners like Penny where his brand can be a big advantage. Ultimately with our program and our coach, I believe that winning is the only thing that will turn things around.

+1. It really is at an all time low and although the fan base is still pretty large, it is aging. There isn’t much of a following within the same age group as recruits which makes recruiting in-state even more challenging and that doesn’t even include the politics of Chicago recruiting. Our blueprint to getting out of the gutter of the conference will have to rely almost entirely on recruiting nationwide and once we do that the in-state targets will see Illinois as an attractive destination.

I am still voting tOSU.

Hopefully, your vote doesn't count in the Liddell house. I'm voting Illini. Hope I'm right. Monday is not our day. unless Rudolph/Brea Beal is making a joint announcement. Otherwise, hopefully, he will move the announcement to Wednesday.

Win and they will come. I’m not worried about missing on all three of these recruits because we haven’t been a good program since 2005. If we were winning and getting into the tournament every year then I would start questioning what we are doing wrong. The last draft pick out of Illinois was Meyers Leonard, let that sink in. Win....and they will come.

If I read it right, Evan's response was to a Misery Fan's claim of EJ to Illinois based upon sources in Belleville. 17-18 year olds, you just never know. Maybe, EJ setting up the real thriller of Rudolph's announcement for Lovie. Just wouldn't bet anyone's beach house.

I love that winning basketball games is the slog we have to go through in order to accomplish our ultimate goal, being validated by 17 year olds on twitter :ROFLMAO:
