I can't believe I'm following the coaching staff hiring process the same way I follow basketball recruiting. Is this what caring feels like?
Ha! That or severe boredom.I can't believe I'm following the coaching staff hiring process the same way I follow basketball recruiting. Is this what caring feels like?
Careful there. First you start caring and then you start hoping... and that's where it all goes straight to hell.I can't believe I'm following the coaching staff hiring process the same way I follow basketball recruiting. Is this what caring feels like?
After that you start a blog out of passion called illinibeard.com, really get into Tom Cruise, move to Champaign out of passion, and then have everything fall apart literally the year you move.Careful there. First you start caring and then you start hoping... and that's where it all goes straight to hell.
=)
Not impossible to imagine Pruitt might feed Chaney to the wolves to keep his job either. Or maybe he's trying to get out of dodge, unlike a HC he wouldn't be walking away from some huge buyout. To be fair, Chaney's offenses at Tennessee haven't been that good.Seems like a pipedream unless those guys are taking pay cuts. I guess Robinson could require less as he's currently unemployed, but he was over 1 mil at SC. Chaney makes like 1.6 mil, and according to a previous post, the S&C guy makes 700k.
I assume Chaney would only come here if Tennessee makes a late move to fire Pruitt.
Just a word of caution. This is all fun, especially the speculation, but I remember when Lovie was hired, there was talk of Jeff Tedford and Pep Hamilton as OCs and we ended up with Gerrick McGee.
Agree. I just meant for all the names that undoubtedly will get thrown around from now until a hire is announced.McGee was considered a home run hire at the time too.
Garrick McGee was a home run hire, by far the most impressive one Lovie made, and a dang miracle given the March timing.Just a word of caution. Yeah it definitely makes a ton of sense. I can see it happening later though, based on him potentially being fired by Pruitt. I just have a hard time seeing him leaving for less, and Illinois paying a coordinator like 1.5 mil. Either way, sounds like it should be an exciting next couple weeks.Chaney hire makes sense to me, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Has a history with Bielema, had a poor season at UT, and may end up as Pruitt's scapegoat. Idk if he has HC aspirations, but they won't be realized by staying on Pruitt's sinking ship. If I had to guess he'll be the first hire, and it will set the tone for recruiting the remaining staff members.
Can anyone imagine UI paying like the SEC? Would the rest of the B1G follow?Yeah it definitely makes a ton of sense. Over in the Basketball thread, I believe we agreed not to be too terribly harsh on our "insiders" --- realizing we're all sharing opinions since none of us is (theoretically) on staff.Agreed. Sorry, but QC's hit rate has been pretty bad.
They're more important that it might seem. Don't forget they're often a big man in town and important for building goodwill for the university and the university athletic programs. Anyway, it doesn't hurt to make the occasional outreach. It’s hilarious how self-important some of these high school coaches are.
With Bielema now in place, I prioritize recruiting as #1. As such, let's get some premiere recruiters on staff!Hearing Robinson from Sc is about to agree on terms to become our new DC. Superstar recruiter. Had to open up the pocket book a little more to get it done
Need talent evaluators and relentless recruiters like him paired with BB on this staff! The quicker it becomes official the better!!
Fair enough.Over in the Basketball thread, I believe we agreed not to be too terribly harsh on our "insiders" --- realizing we're all sharing opinions since none of us is (theoretically) on staff.
Moorhead is my best guess.I got a really good feeling during one of the video's/podcasts, when I heard that BB wants to pepper some former Illini into his coaching staff. I think it was something like (paraphrasing) "........I'd like to get some guys on staff who recall what Football success was like at Illiniois".
I immediately interpreted this as Scheelhaase, but several other options do exist (i.e. Bellamy).
Will be interesting to see if he can deliver.
Reading through some of those comments was the worst decision I've made this week. The McGee hire was such a coup at the time. Just look at the comments on this board after it was starting to be confirmed:
