I don’t agree with this logic- you mean we wouldn’t take a DC from Alabama or Ohio St because they had too much talent to work with? Ash was at Wisconsin before those schools and had top defenses there before getting the OSU job- you don’t get the big time jobs without showing success with lesser talent first- Ash has proven himself as a DC over and over again

He’s getting $4.3M over the next two years from Rutgers and Texas so money won’t be the issue.

Your point on if he wants a rebuild situation is the right question, that’s what it boils down to - and his relationship with BB
I read his post as he is hesitant on Ash saying Yes to Illinois because he will more than likely have more attractive suitors.

Maybe I worded it weird. I meant he might not want to take our job. He’s been able to take better jobs with better talent. He could be picky on where he wants to be dc. Obviously we’d be crazy not to want him here.
Got it- I agree. Ash will have suitors and is owed plenty of back pay- so he can be patient for what he wants. It will be a testament to the BB relationship if he comes here

I would love to add Ash to the staff. That being said.....I could easily see Ash joining the Urban Meyer staff if/when he takes the Jaguars job.

I think the DC is coming from NFL. Someone from NE or the Giants. Just a guess.

I would love if Bielema could lure DL coach away from the Giants, Sean Spencer. The guy is a beast and has a track record at Penn St
Sean Spencer would be nice! Their running a 3-4 scheme in new york, think hes the next dc??

I could see him or maybe DeMarcus Covington from the Pats who is their current DL coach and was Co-DC + DL coach at EIU for a few year before joining the Pats. I could see a younger NFL position coach being a Co-DC with an older coach like Ron English.

Think spencer would go for co-dc? Him and English would be awsome but i just assumed spencer left for the nfl to try and get above ahc/dline. Just a thought

I really have no clue who will get hired....just chatter

My wish list for DC is Mike Tressel, Sean Spencer, or younger DC in that order. (I like Ash but I wouldn't see him staying here long at all)

If they would hire someone who doesn't have DC experience, I would look for them to bring in an experienced Co-Def Coordinator or past Def Coordinator. Have heard a few say Ron English, I would say Paul Rhoads. Has past history with Bielema and is super experienced in 3-4 D.

I don’t mind the timing here. Bowl games done. NFL done today. Pool is open. Only Texas job opened up recently, so not a lot of competition right now. Coaches get to spend time with family for the holidays. Get to work this week.

Fitz has stated he will entertain NFL offers...his time at NW could be coming to an end
I don’t buy this. He does this all this time to puff up, then use it for leverage ($ for him or assistants) and to tell his recruits how cool he is. He is a college coach through and through. He may leave, but I’d be surprised. He could go 4-8 the next 5 years and nobody in Evanston would care. Or notice.

I know that it seems to be all but a done deal at this point. You all assumed that meant I knew who it was which I don’t.
Is your avatar Miker Peterson, the older brother of former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson and linebacker coach for South Carolina?

I really don't get Fickell's Skyline Chili Hamlet routine. Just take the Michigan State job you dork.

It really would have been a stroke of genius if we'd hired Freeman. He was on a couple of those first initial speculative lists by Jeremy Werner and the like and I immediately thought that was such a smart option to look at. The reason that's scary is the question of staff construction and management and being able to draw from a deep network of connections. WELP.
Freeman was my 1st choice but I'm much happier than initially with BB ..
