So, Wofford is a triple option team, which I did not know. Conklin retained the OC when he got there who has been there for literally like 30 years.Oh boy here is some sleuthing for you.
Conklin's DC at Wofford is a young guy named Sam Siefkes, who got started in coaching as the DB coach at DIII UW-LaCrosse, and managed to parlay that into an off-field role at Florida International, where he met up with Conklin.
Siefkes' AD at LaCrosse was Josh Whitman, and he got the gig at FIU to fill out Ron Turner's initial staff there.
Conklin also got his first taste of big time football in 2012 as the Safeties coach at Tennessee under Derek Dooley, who also connects Tony Petersen to Bielema.
This profession is a tiny little fishbowl when you start digging.
So where does Kevin Bacon fit into all of this?Oh boy here is some sleuthing for you.

Very good point. And both guys were DCs for newly promoted HCs, whom were considered great DCs. I'm sure Odom and Narduzzi were very influential, if not flat out calling, the defenses in those early years. In fairness, Walters has 5 years of experience as DC/co-DC in the SEC
in comparison Conklin only has 3 years of experience as a DC in a P5 conference
So where does Kevin Bacon fit into all of this?
He didn’t recruit STL. You are also talking experience in years versus experience facing different style offenses. Which do you think is more important?lol I would still be very happy with the hire. I'm just saying the other guys have an established track record of being good defensive coaches. Walters is 34, he's obviously going to be light on experience. Strategically it would make sense bringing in a young guy that has experience recruiting St. Louis and is very highly thought of in the coaching profession.
I read an article this morning that said he had some experience recruiting STL, and even named a few players he recruited. I don't understand the argument of styles vs years. Are you saying other DCs don't face as many styles as Mizzou? I would think that's hard to really calculate. Conklin was facing the ACC at Pitt and who knows who at FIU and Wofford. Knowles is facing the Big12 now, but was in the ACC with Duke.He didn’t recruit STL. You are also talking experience in years versus experience facing different style offenses. This comment has been called for a flagrant foul, two shots and the ball for Mizzou. My pick is Walters, and here is why:
I hate Mizzou with such a passion that even the appearance that our dumpster fire program is considered a step up from Mizzou would make my day. It would make my week, really. It's a short term win but I'm petty.
So has anyone charted at what time previous announcements were made so that we have an ETA for DC announcement?
Petersen was late, like 7:30ish and then Miller was the following morning. So has anyone charted at what time previous announcements were made so that we have an ETA for DC announcement?
Yeah he's going to take all day since you guys were so mean to him about Tank WrightThey're probably waiting on the coach-picture-photoshop guy to finalize the announcement pictures lol.
But what about Tank and the operations guy. Need more data points so when combined with ambient temperature of Smith Center and average psi of practice balls we can determine an exact time down to the minute.Petersen was late, like 7:30ish and then Miller was the following morning.

Tank was Sunday night. Chief of staff was yesterday afternoon. You can find the tweets on the loyalty home page. But what about Tank and the operations guy. As long as it's not the Miles Smith reunion tour I will be content.Prepare for the smoke screen, bait and switch, Charlie Brown moment folks. Nut cup installed.
Good analysis - this is why I would be excited with Walters frankly - their defense got markedly better when he took over as DC each of the first two years and in 2019 they were one of the best defenses in the country, playing in the SEC no less. 2020 they were bad - but from what I've heard, injuries, COVID issues and injuries had them playing short handed the whole year. So, I'm willing to give him a pass on 2020Walters stats as Co-D
16-17
vs teams outside top 25 11-10 pts against 29.5
vs teams in top 25 0-4 pts against 43.0
Walters stats as Def Coordinator
18-20
vs teams outside top 25 17-7 pts against 21.6
vs teams in top 25 2-9 pts against 33.5
I will say Walters had a stellar year in 2019. He got lit up this year but also played the toughest schedule since arriving in Missouri. They played 5 top 25 teams out of 10 games this year. Also gave up 38, 35, 41, 41 and 49 pts against those top 25 teams.
