It's official. Well, it's on Wikipedia and it doesn't get anymore official than that. (Sarcasm)
Per Wiki:

"In January of 2021, a report surfaced that Walters was among three finalists to join Bret Bielema's new staff at Illinois. The other finalists were reportedly Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, and Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom, Walters' former boss at Missouri. Odom eventually elected to stay with Arkansas, and on January 6, 2021, Walters was announced as the new DC for the Illini by insiders on IllinoisLoyalty.com."

(Okay, I embellished a bit, but the Barry Odom stuff wasn't in the FootballScoop article, was it?)

Officially official. Love it. This staff is really taking form. Excited to see who fills in around the coordinators and what direction BB goes for STC.

I think Lovie and staff had a good eye for kids with the physical specs to be pro athletes but needed some great coaching and motivation. Time will tell if our players already on the team get better. Lovies staff could identify a possible diamond in the rough but had no polishing tools. I think this new staff will do more with what they have right off the bat! Im excited

Mizz people are spinning this that their coach wants his own DC guy there anyway. I know that’s sour grapes.

BUT if any part of that is true, Walters should be able to bring ANY of the defensive assistants with him that he wants.

Most of the assistants were Drink guys. Walters and Brick I believe were the only two holdovers.

So, Mizzou coach wanted his own DC - fair enough. So, did he call the IL HC and request him to take his DC off his staff?

I mean I don’t buy it. It’s just. Mizzou spin. Clearly Walters was going to be their DC next year.

100% correct

I don't see this as being a bad thing for either side really. Might be more pressure on Missouri and Drinkwitz if anything. Drinkwitz now has the pressure of hiring his own guy. He could strike out or hit a home run. Having that extra year of eligibility and also having the ability to transfer could help/hurt them depending upon who they hire or if any guys want to follow Walters to a new location. Same could be said with whoever Missouri will end up hiring to be new DC...

Why are you guys wasting time/energy on why he came here? Thats Mizzous problem not ours. Does everything need to be turned into a soap opera?
Well I was simply speculating about who he has on his defensive staff and liked the idea of poaching a top assistant from missou

How did the "Bert" thing start? Funny. Must have been a typo originally. From where?
