Bielema is displaying a level of intention, detail, and savvy the likes of which Illinois football hasn’t seen in decades. Love this move.Hawthorne Named Director of High School Personnel and Illini Relations - University of Illinois Athletics
Hawthorne was a two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention selection at Illinois before being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, then becoming the defensive backs coachfightingillini.com
We need the Metro East. Both sides of the Mississippi. This will be immense from the start on the East Side. STL in my humble opinion is heavily dictated on Coach Reed and who he gives his support since Patterson left TrinityDidn’t Patterson recruit his area?
him catching that scUM player from being10 yards back is one of my all time favorite plays.
the fact we then held them on 4 downs from the 1, was , well, AWESOME AS WELL !!
some of these personnel moves are so awesome and obvious, one wonders what Lovie & Co were thinking ?
I was at that game, too. I remember the result of his hustle and the ensuing 4-down stand. But man, I didn't remember the second replay and how close they were to scoring on 4th down.
He get’s itBielema is displaying a level of intention, detail, and savvy the likes of which Illinois football hasn’t seen in decades. Love this move.
Had the pleasure to work with him for a year. Represents the University Well! Thrilled to have him back! Cant hurt recruiting in that area.Welcome back, Black Cat!
Loved watching him zip and dance through Metro defenses for years. He inspired underclassmen (and probably upperclassmen, haha) to copy his game and effort and I was thrilled when he chose to stay home for college. I will NEVER forget his play against Michigan that started the goal line stand to end all others.
His name and leadership resonate. I'm biased, but see this as a fantastic choice. Go Illini!
I think it means Hawthorne can't, unless he wears a headset during games, which obviously he won't be. Patterson wore a headset, so he could go right back to TC to recruitDoes this mean we can’t recruit anybody from east St. Louis for 2 years?
Except it's closed.I think it means Hawthorne can't, unless he wears a headset during games, which obviously he won't be. Patterson wore a headset, so he could go right back to TC to recruit
Illinois can't recruit ESL for 2 years.I think it means Hawthorne can't, unless he wears a headset during games, which obviously he won't be. Patterson wore a headset, so he could go right back to TC to recruit
Yeah i know. But he could go back when he got hired as to where we can't go to ESL now.Except it's closed.
How does that work? Like hypothetically if a kid there is interested in Illinois, if he initiates the contact, is that allowed? Are official visits illegal for their players? Are our coaches not allowed to go to their games or school? I guess I'm confused on what exactly "can't recruit ESL" means. Also, is there no gray area in that rule? Hawthorne was not the head coach and was only there a couple years in an assistant capacity, not like he's running the program.Illinois can't recruit ESL for 2 years.
It's confusing as all get out. Here's a starting point:Can someone explain the difference between the Director of Illinois High School Relations and Hawthorne's job?
Hawthorne has an essential role in cultivating relationships with the Fighting Illini’s high school recruits and high school coaches. He evaluates high school student-athletes and assists in the transition of student-athletes from high school to college. Hawthorne also works alongside the Illinois Athletics Varsity “I” Association and fellow Illini football alum Kevin Mitchell to provide alumni outreach for the Fighting Illini football program.
No idea but Ryan’s role might be more high school coach centered, while Hawthorne’s sounds like it is more high school recruit/player centric. Can someone explain the difference between the Director of Illinois High School Relations and Hawthorne's job?
