We need the Metro East. Both sides of the Mississippi. This will be immense from the start on the East Side. STL in my humble opinion is heavily dictated on Coach Reed and who he gives his support since Patterson left Trinity

I was in Block I endzone for that game and we were going absolutely bananas! I still remeber the guys in the front with the Fire Zook sign who changed it to hire Zook after the game.

Loved watching him zip and dance through Metro defenses for years. He inspired underclassmen (and probably upperclassmen, haha) to copy his game and effort and I was thrilled when he chose to stay home for college. I will NEVER forget his play against Michigan that started the goal line stand to end all others.
His name and leadership resonate. I'm biased, but see this as a fantastic choice. Go Illini!

I was at that game, too. I remember the result of his hustle and the ensuing 4-down stand. But man, I didn't remember the second replay and how close they were to scoring on 4th down.

Had the pleasure to work with him for a year. Represents the University Well! Thrilled to have him back! Cant hurt recruiting in that area.
I think it means Hawthorne can't, unless he wears a headset during games, which obviously he won't be. Patterson wore a headset, so he could go right back to TC to recruit

Yeah i know. But he could go back when he got hired as to where we can't go to ESL now.

How does that work? Like hypothetically if a kid there is interested in Illinois, if he initiates the contact, is that allowed? Are official visits illegal for their players? Are our coaches not allowed to go to their games or school? I guess I'm confused on what exactly "can't recruit ESL" means. Also, is there no gray area in that rule? Hawthorne was not the head coach and was only there a couple years in an assistant capacity, not like he's running the program.

That's how Hawthorne's job responsibilities are described on our website. Now we just need to wait for Pat Ryan's page to be added.
I'm just guessing but it seems to me like the same role. I think coach B is really hammering home the in-state recruiting. Seems like Ryan will have better coach connections while Terry will be more involved with connecting to the players. We need all the help we can get in state. I like the hire.
No idea but Ryan’s role might be more high school coach centered, while Hawthorne’s sounds like it is more high school recruit/player centric.
