A really good primer on the cesspool that is hoops recruiting is The Scheme (HBO Max). Fair warning: a long, hot shower immediately afterwards may be necessary.
Just in case anyone else made the same mistake I did, Temple12 is not near as impressive as Tempe12 when you search Google.Google “Tempe12”
This reminds me a lot of the Zavier Simpson fiasco. If you look at it as “us vs one other school”, you will get irrationally frustrated and angry, bc no matter what the reports say, you never really know who the “final few” are.
Boom. Last day new school. How did that happen?!
the field. That’s how.
Uh the field is who we are against (always) and that is what I am saying.
When you make a bet on Tiger vs the field, you don’t “re-bet” on the last day... your bet is still, and always, tiger vs the field.
You are free to “uh...what” me if you’d like, but facts are facts. What % of recruits that we offer do we get? A very low %.
Not because we were beaten by 1 school each time, but Bc we were beaten by the field, every time.

Going by the limited film I saw, I thought he was more of a facilitator than scorer. He certainly made some passes that made me believe he thinks like a true PG. It's awfully hard to judge going on highlight videos but his videos showed a lot of passing, which is rare for non-PGs. Usually its just 3's and Dunks if they are a score 1st type of guy.I'm not sure if Bass is a point or a combo or how the staff views that. With Underwood putting such a premium on passing I wouldn't be surprised to see them take another guard that slides over into the true point role a bit more but with that being said maybe the staff views Bass as that guy
Just as a case study, Stanford hasn't exactly been better than us in the time frame we're talking, and certainly not the last two years, but for 2021 has the #12 and #44 recruits per 247, and in 2020 had the #6 recruit. And the kids we're talking about recently, Boakye/Burnett/TyTy are deciding right now. They're well aware of our recent success.Last weekend was the Illini's first tournament appearance since 2013. Our current coaching staff had losing records their first two years here. Some of the kids being pursued this cycle have never stepped on campus or met the coaches in person due to the pandemic. Until very recently, the Illini have been an afterthought to kids who are now in high school; they were toddlers the last time we were relevant. Give it time. The current publicity should help in '22, '23 and down the road, if the success can be sustained.

I might just like the idea of a 6'5" PG that can defend multiple positions.
The three in question are also all guys who made a commitment and then backed off it for one reason or another. They are young. These are big decisions. I'm not saying it is necessarily due to a character flaw in any of these young men, but having conviction and perseverance would be attributes I would covet as a coach.Just as a case study, Stanford hasn't exactly been better than us in the time frame we're talking, and certainly not the last two years, but for 2021 has the #12 and #44 recruits per 247, and in 2020 had the #6 recruit. Well they are in a conference that is killing it in tourney versus the weak B1G. / sI feel like I know what's coming, but I'm going to ask anyway - outside of hiring someone in a recruit's circle, what is the draw of ASU?
lol
Makes more sense than Auburn...
I'm not sure the two are related at all. I would assume that if Oats is looking at other jobs, he's not sharing that info with recruits, and that while he's the coach at Alabama he's fully recruiting for Alabama.Makes more sense than Auburn...
Nate Oats is doing a heck of a job with that program. I suppose the silver lining there is that if that is the case, Nate isn't likely leaving for IU.

I don't think he is either - I just don't think coaches are letting recruits know they're leaving before having announced. He’s not leaving Alabama unless a blue blood job comes open.
Just signed an extension on 3/14Makes more sense than Auburn...

Indiana used to be a blue blood. There's not a 0% chance he's establishing a relationship with NB now and then recruits him to whichever school he's at next season. He’s not leaving Alabama unless a blue blood job comes open.
Dude is recruiting with the elite and flipped that program overnight. They will pay him whatever he wants.
He’s still gonna be pick in the top 40 in the draft. Probably not a great choice to play alongside Alonzo Verge and Remy Martin who’ve never seen a shot they didn’t like but he’s still got all the toolsSeeing the Boakye news and saw mention of Josh Christopher. Holy moly did that kid fall off the face of the earth by going to ASU. Played decently well according to his stats but got zero national exposure.
I thought I read that Verge and Martin are pursuing professional opportunities instead of returning for their extra year. Christopher is obviously gone. And now Jaelen House has entered the transfer portal. I think Boakye might get 40 shots per game. He’s still gonna be pick in the top 40 in the draft.
