Yup and the only person in the midwest / east coast who will watch him play is probably Jon Rothstein.
For sure, he's signed up for college hoops oblivion. No doubt about that. I'll never understand recruiting (and maybe that's a good thing).

Uh the field is who we are against (always) and that is what I am saying.

When you make a bet on Tiger vs the field, you don’t “re-bet” on the last day... your bet is still, and always, tiger vs the field.

You are free to “uh...what” me if you’d like, but facts are facts. What % of recruits that we offer do we get? A very low %.
Not because we were beaten by 1 school each time, but Bc we were beaten by the field, every time.

If you look at it as “us vs one other school”, you will get irrationally frustrated and angry, bc no matter what the reports say, you never really know who the “final few” are.

Boom. Last day new school. How did that happen?!

the field. That’s how. ;)
This why I should only pay attention to the commits, versus following each dating cycle. And even then, maybe just after they are on campus. But, I will be back on here tomorrow, for another round of highs and lows.

Just to recap: while still picking up the pieces after a crushing loss in the NCAA tourney, we were told that something really exciting was going to happen for us in the next 48 hours, only to find out shortly after that we would just be taking another L on the recruiting front?

And he knows that and doesn't care. Ok, maybe he cares, but the folks pulling the strings don't.

Many elite kids view college ball as merely a necessary stepping stone to the league. The sooner, the better, is paramount, by far. The desperation of coaches to get players results in a virtual under the table auction. Anyone who thinks the FBI scandal cleaned things up is deluding themselves,

None of what I'm about to say is earth shattering, but I find it hilarious that some posters here think that Illinois is in any way special in how it loses recruits or who it loses them to. Even blue bloods lose out on recruits at the last minute to a lesser school. Check out other teams forums regarding recruiting and gameday threads or national forums like r/CollegeBasketball on Reddit when a big recruit commits and you'll see very similar comments to what you see here. When you're recruiting 17 and 18 year olds (or a few years older for transfers), there's no formula you can point to to know if you should or shouldn't get a recruit. We can now say we have a superior program in comparison to ASU, but that doesn't always matter. @LubbockIlliniFan makes the point about national exposure, national exposure doesn't mean anything for players likely headed to the NBA. Boakye doesn't need national exposure, NBA scouts know right where to find him. National exposure for players like that only matter for personal branding, which doesn't matter too much for college players. How many OK State games were nationally televised this season before the tourney, did that stop Cunningham from becoming a likely No. 1 NBA draft pick?

I don't know why Boakye chose ASU over UI, whether something nefarious happened or something was done in a gray area, but the fact is we aren't particularly special in losing out on recruits, it just seems that way if you pay attention to recruiting with blinders on to the hundreds of other recruits we aren't involved in.

Boakye was committed to Sparty from July 2020 until last month, and there is no indication that we were on his radar screen before that, so I'm not going to get too upset over losing a recruit upon whom our staff likely committed modest resources. Nice that we got a shot, but this isn't like losing an in-state kid the staff has been focusing on since his freshman year, ya know?

MSU seems to be the big recruiting loser here, Enoch certainly had to know ASU was dangling the job to his old coach before he left the Spartans. My guess it was ASU all along as soon as the deal was closed.

All I'm going to say about Boakye's recruitment here is that people should feel bad for him. It's not where he wanted to go.

Few of us here can probably relate to the pressure top prospects get with people who are doing things for self-serving purposes.

This is up there with Oscar T. Sad.
Looking at it from that perspective is helpful. Gotta feel for the kid, and I can't imagine all the pressure he was getting from different sides.

I mean, probably not? he seemed legitimately interested in the U of I among others schools up until the last few days. didn’t even have an ASU offer before Monday.

That is really unfortunate. It's easy to get caught up in the emotions of this roller coaster process and, particularly when you feel like that player was just about to come here, harbor some ill will towards recruits when they shun the beloved. And it's just as easy to forget that these are mere kids that just so happen to be extremely talented in basketball rather than chess, and are often acting based on pressures that have nothing to do with their own desires/interests. So, thanks for sharing. I'd be lying if I said I'll be rooting for him, since I have never gone out of my way to watch ASU and won't be starting anytime soon, but I wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully he can capitalize on his talents and have lots of individual success. Hurley on the other hand...

Enoch decommitted in mid-Feb. Rashon Burno left ASU for the head job at NIU just two weeks ago. So this seems a little too conspiracy-theory for me.

ASU knew they were losing Burno prior to the date he actually left. Coincidence? I think not!

He’s not leaving Alabama unless a blue blood job comes open.

Dude is recruiting with the elite and flipped that program overnight. They will pay him whatever he wants.
I had to inform a friend who's an Alabama resident and football fan that they do indeed have a basketball team too and they're pretty damn good. Was news to him. This was last week.

So then what you are saying is that he’s playing college basketball for the name on the back of the jersey and not the front. Maybe we don’t want that kid anyway.

Someone fill me in on this. What does Alabama's coach have to do with anything right now?
