It's not the number of transfers that is concerning to me. It's the possibility of linking coach movement with player movement. Shaka goes from Texas to Marquette and takes Ramey and Sims with him. Now schools can start offering coaches contracts based on the players the coach can poach with him, then dump the coach when those players are gone and take the next coach from the next program that has a good set of players. The money is going to be there from some booster. Obviously it gets much more complicated, but this doesn't feel sustainable.

Thats a reeeeeaaaallllllyyyyy expensive way to recruit some kids just for a couple years.

So we hire Hawthorne on the football side, and WE cannot recruit East Side for two years.. yet a coach can move to another school and players are allowed to go with him? What am I missing?

If we hired Hawthorne as an on field assistant we could recruit ESL. But he is support staff so we can't.

I watched a lot of IU games this year. That dude averaged 1 air ball a game. Worst shooting 5 star I have ever seen.
He was also a reclass and got a free year. So he still has 4 years left and is way ahead where he would be if this was his true freshman year. I'd for sure take him if we can't land TyTy

Absolutely right. I think he skipped his last year of high school and came early. Meechie Johnson for Ohio State also came early. There was also a center that committed to UCLA that I refuse to mention by name. I don't know if I would take Lander though. Talented and highly regarded but I like this Curbelo guy ten times better.

The problem is Curbelo isn't much of a shooter, at least not now. He needs to ball in his hands. Any PG that we bring in needs to be more of a scoring/combo PG, because Curbelo is not a strength playing off the ball.

Look, yes Lander had a rough year but he reclassified. Honestly should have still been in high school but IU really pushed for him to come early. Plus Archie might be the worst guard developing coach I’ve ever seen. Lander wasn’t a 5 star for s***s and gigs. Look him up on YouTube and tell me he’s not talented. I think he’d be a great get if we lose out on TyTy and Nimari. EDIT: plus he’ll still be a freshman eligibility wise who just got baptized in the B1G. IU fans said he was showing more promise down the stretch so I’d really love to see this
Promise down the stretch?? He had 6 out of his last 8 games where he didn’t score a point. I don’t need to watch a HS highlight tape when we saw how he played this year. He might eventually be a decent player, but he’s a project, I’d pass.

One point of clarification RE: Nate Oats and Hurley.....It was actually Danny Hurley who was recruiting the kid off Oats high school team and was so impressed with him that he told Bobby if he needed an assistant at Buffalo that Oats would be a good candidate.

Why are we digging into the minutiae of the relationship between Nate Oats and Danny Hurley in the Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread?

I believe it is part of a desperate attempt to prove that ASU hiring Boakye's coach had nothing to do with them also landing Boakye. Apparently completely unrelated...go figure.

Ahem... Then allow Ed Hochuli to intervene again.
