When I first read of the number of players St Lou gave up to get Arenado it reminded me of what Pete Rose called Von Hayes when he was traded by the Cleveland Indians to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jay Baller, Julio Franco, Manny Trillo, George Vukovich and Jerry Willard. Pete called him, "Ol' 5 for 1." And said no one is worth 5 players no matter who they are. It made me chuckle.

With that here's a link to St Lou Post-Dispatch's Rick Hummel talking about the best trades St Louis has made since he has been covering the team. (No Lou Brock as it was before his time.)

The rush to judgment has been considerable on the Nolan Arenado trade to the Cardinals, with one fringe pitcher and four minor leaguers going to Colorado. Some have called it the best fleecing since Brock for Broglio.

But the better way to judge these deals is to wait a few years, preferably until all involved have finished their careers with the respective teams involved in the trades.

It's similar to what the Cubs received from the Darvish trade, IMO. Won't really know for a few years yet. Right now, yeah, looks like a good trade for Cards, as it does for Padres. Time will tell.

Nolan Gorman showing up early to spring training to practice 2nd base with the MVP (Jose Oquendo, the most versatile player).

Cardinals fans will be allowed back at Busch Stadium for the home opener: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...dinals-get-approval-32-capacity-busch-stadium

Busch Stadium will be at 32% capacity, meaning about 14,500 fans will be able to attend. Season ticket holders will get the first crack at tickets for the first two homestands with the general public being allowed to buy any remaining tickets. Fans will be seated in pods of four or fewer with at least 6 feet between each pod. Masks will be required except when eating or drinking.

It's only a couple games, but it's time for Carpenter to go. I would love to eat crow, but he is done.

I saw Matt Carpenter is a guarantee to make the roster and listed as a DH. could they create a title of designated out. I know spring training doesn’t mean much, but 1 hit and batting .030.

A couple of dust ups already. I may be biased, but it was all on Castellanos. I know he is hot and took a fastball up and in, but you could tell from Yari’s reaction there was no intent. He then flexes on Woodford while standing over him at home plate later in the inning.

He was quite the punk. He stood over the pitcher yelling at him and when Cardinal players came to protect the pitcher, he backs off. He deserved being tossed.

I have watched the past 3 games against the Marlins (thank you free week with MLB). I noticed a lot of pitches out of the strike zone. It seemed intentional to try and get batters to chase, a lot. Has the philosophy of first pitch strike changed, or is it merely poor execution? Last night, as Jack threw his 80th pitch, they asked how many were wasted (without purpose), I said 30, they thought 10-15.
