Look at Embid...he is a distributor and hits a mid range shot consistently. He is serviceable at arc, but doesn't live there.

I think a high post Illini-Kofi distributing to driving or 3p shooting guards or Kofi hitting a midrange jumper would expand his game.

Small tweaks to our offense would give Kofi chance to show another side that appeals to NBA.

If Kofi wants to improve his jump shot and perimeter game, great. However, I don’t know if BU would change up his offense (which worked very well last season) to allow Kofi to get more outside shots. All the coaches want to help their players achieve their (the players) highest goal(s), but the head coach’s job is to win a championship. Personally, I don’t see BU putting his 7’0, 285 lb center around the perimeter to make him more marketable to the NBA. If Kofi hits a lot of shots in practice, maybe. But I am having a hard time envisioning that coming together.

I see those tweeks being done by coaches and teammates that have worked with him in the past.

If only BU had experience with a high post offense that moved the big from high post to low post with the option of popping to the perimeter…

It would be really easy in our offense for Kofi to show a little bit of mid range and perimeter skill. He led the nation last year in pick and rolls. Transition some of the P&R to the pick and pop and now Kofi has the ball at the elbow.

If Kofi showed in practice that it is a viable option, it seems like it would be easy to implement.

All of the "it's concerning if he wants to shoot more from the outside" comments are foolish. Let Kofi eat.

And to be fair - BU’s system BEFORE last year involved a lot of floor spacing. He adjusted based on Ayo and Kofi. He can adjust again. In Brad we trust.

Are there ANY examples of a player entering the portal and returning to their original school? I don't buy the "leverage" talk, unless it is leverage with another school. Several other big names must have been clueless about all the "leverage" they could have gained by entering the portal before returning???

Gonna miss the big fella! Anywhere but the B10 and I will wish Kofi luck

This is ALL about money. He's got too many people (hanger-ons) in his ear telling him how he needs to cash in. Loyalty to your current team takes a backseat to money. This all makes me sad.

Not saying you are, but I just can’t see making Kofi the bad guy regardless of what happens. He suddenly has an ocean of opportunity available to him and he should do whatever is best for him and his family.

Agreed. Fans tend to forget that a player’s decision will effect the program only temporarily, but to the player it is a decision that can effect their whole life.

Yeah, it would suck to see Kofi in a different uniform, but that is something that barely effects our lives, at all. This kid is trying to make the best decision for his future and I really don’t think anyone can fault him for trying to make the most out of his talent while he can.

Totally agree. Kofi's NY handlers & his agent are all about the coin.

As opposed to everyone here that works out of the goodness of their heart.

I get what you are saying but making it all about “next year’s money” could be short sighted. Other factors could be more important for his long term career earnings and performance.
It's hard to argue that Illinois is the better path to the NBA considering UK's track record. And if they have higher NIL figures than Illinois then I would start to wonder why he would come back.

If it is all about the money, wouldn’t he be better off playing overseas? I really haven't any idea what those leagues pay

It could be more lucrative once he's established himself, but I think right out the gate you're probably talking high five figures to low six figures for most guys. Kofi probably on the higher end of that range, but still probably less than he'd make with NIL, given the numbers being discussed

BBIQ: “This is his career, why shouldn't it be about money?”

Basketball was once throwing a used soccer ball into a simple peach basket that didn’t even have hole in the bottom of it.

Now it’s a game of throwing armloads of cash into big money baskets (without a hole in them) of players, coaches, assistant coaches, television networks, “unorthodox” recruiters, corporate sponsors, vendors, sports media people, and other destinations. Lots of people making lots of money.

Now whether this is a good or bad thing depends on your point of view. In any case, there is a great deal of good and a great deal of bad in it.

Getting lost, however, is the simple joy of taking a round ball and bouncing it a few times and making it sing on the court and then throwing it into a hoop and hearing the sweet sound of twine dancing its happy tune. Accountants and Handlers and Hangers-On are never fun about anything.

The Favored Names in college ball will remain the favored names. Everyone else will be playing catch-up, as always. But one of these days – somehow and some way – the big trophy will be brought to the Prairie State by the courageous players who avoided all competing temptations and chose to proudly wear Illini Orange while doing it.

Will (this guy) go? Will (this guy) stay? It’s never about those who choose to go away. It’s all about those who choose to stay. And because they want to be here and not because of the money.
