Sucky magic, if we win one of those three but still get tagged with three losses.
My goodness, he's astute. Also has discerning, subtle taste and is exceedingly handsome. Our biggest fan has us checking in at #10.
I am not sure why Jerry Palm is a bracketologist as his picks are usually a bit outlandish. This week he has Wisconsin as a 1 seed And Illinois as a 6. We are significantly higher in the net and Ken Pom than Wiscy.
Yeah, I think the main purpose of NET is to establish Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4 for the purpose of judging teams' resumes. The selection committee does not use raw NET or KenPom rankings for seeding. Wisconsin’s resume (read: Team Sheet and Quad 1 / Quad 2 record) is really really good right now, much better than ours. I assume that’s the rationale behind these seeds.
Take a look at the team sheets:
Illinois (Q1: 2-3; Q1+2: 7-5)
Wisconsin (Q1: 7-3; Q1+2: 10-3)
It's likely as simple as who is currently in first, and when multiple teams are in first, pick the one with the highest ranking. We were briefly listed as the AQ last week or the week before when we had first alone.I do like how ESPN has given the AQ to Wisconsin! Lotta season left and pretty sure we are tied Joe
Men's Bracketology: Duke plus Cooper Flagg makes Blue Devils early overall No. 1
Bracketology begins the off season projections with a familiar name at the top. Duke, led by generational recruit Cooper Flagg, starts our 2024-25 bracket cycle on top.www.espn.com
C'mon man, don't you know ESPN is an evil corporation who's sole purpose is to intentionally annoy Illini basketball fans. Also they're lizard people. It's likely as simple as who is currently in first, and when multiple teams are in first, pick the one with the highest ranking. "Strawman argument" must be the phrase of the week.
I wasn't making an argument though. Not trying to convince you that I'm right or you're wrong. Just stating my personal preference.
It certainly wouldn't surprise me if someone on here valued the regular season more than the tournament...the sample size argument. You occasionally hear similar takes regarding MLB regular season vs playoffs.

Not trying to turn this into a debate. There is no debate here. That sounds like you're sticking with the strawman, when the OP was that the conference meant nothing anymore.
There's a ton of fans that appreciate what it means to win the conference --how hard it is, what it means for seeding in the tournament, raising that banner, the program, recruiting, etc.. If you're interested in comparisons, probably better to spell it out --there's plenty to debate on how much various accomplishments help the program (rankings, conf, BTT, NCAAs to name a few). I think most people would agree that a FF is the best prize short of a NC.
I think the issue/confusion here is that this statement is very different from "I'd take a Final Four over a conference championship." I think everyone would agree with the latter. I think the former is more debatable and really depends on what "success" even means in regards to the tournament and regular season.Whether that's what you actually believe or not, doesn't matter to me. I simply responded and said that success in the tournament is more important than regular season success TO ME. And it sounds like you agree with me, so I'm confused what we're even talking about.
And often, those Cinderella coaches spin it into a promotion to a larger school and then show vividly how success in the regular season is important for tournament success. See: Groce, John.I think the issue/confusion here is that this statement is very different from "I'd take a Final Four over a conference championship." I think everyone would agree with the latter. I think the former is more debatable and really depends on what "success" even means in regards to the tournament and regular season.
I also think it's naive to think tournament success can exist without regular season success. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the worse our seeding, the lower our odds of making the Final Four. We remember the Cinderella stories because they're rare, not because they're common, and even most of those teams aren't making it past the Sweet Sixteen.
Yeah, it sounds like something has just been lost in translation here or, I missed some additional context somewhere.I think the issue/confusion here is that this statement is very different from "I'd take a Final Four over a conference championship." I can't help but wonder if the B1G showing in the tourney last year will hurt seeding this year.Interestingly, Torvik has us, Wisconsin and MSU all as 5 seeds. That would be interesting.
Bracket Matrix doesn't appear to have been updated in a while. 2 sites have us as a 7 but if you click on those sites, one has upgraded us to a 4 and the other has downgraded us to a 10 ( ).

I see Eamonn Brennan is still a turd. A lot of people swear by The Athletic, and they have some great writers, but how did Brennan slip through?Latest from The Athletic $$$ubscription

Not defending Brennan, but I think by “lock” he means “could lose the rest of their games, or close to it, and still make the dance.”I see Eamonn Brennan is still a turd. A lot of people swear by The Athletic, and they have some great writers, but how did Brennan slip through?

It's updated daily, but it is at the mercy of other bracketologists since many update weekly.Interestingly, Torvik has us, Wisconsin and MSU all as 5 seeds. That would be interesting.
