Big Ten didn't really do much worse than the selection committee expected to be honest. They seeded 3 of our teams in the top 16, and 2 of our teams advanced to the last 16. Off by one. No Big Ten teams were seeded in the top 8. So if either of the Big Ten teams advances to the Elite Eight, you could argue the conference actually exceeded expectations. It is possible we had a lot of teams worthy of being in the lower half or lower 3/4 of the bracket, which is exactly how the selection committee seeded us. And our last three teams in (Indiana, Rutgers, Michigan) have gone a combined 3-2, which isn't terrible for a group of 11 and 12 seeds.
based on seeding - below average. only 1 team so far advanced beyond what was expected.
3 seed Purdue in sweet 16 (as expected)
11 seed Michigan in sweet 16
6 Ohio St out as expected
7 mich st out as expected
11 Indiana out as expected
11 Rutgers out as expected
3 Wisconsin out before expected
4 Illinois out before expected
5 Iowa out before expected

But when you look at the ACC - 4 teams so far advanced beyond what was expected with 3 still alive.
8th seed NC in Sweet 16
2nd seed Duke in Sweet 16 (as expected)
10 seed Miami in sweet 16
11 seed ND advanced beyond what was expected
11 seed Va Tech out as expected.

Or look at the Pac12 last year.

And Rutgers was a coin flip away from beating ND in a Ross-up game. Could of been even better with those teams.

Iowa stinker really hurts. Illini fans all know that feeling when you can’t buy a basket.

Imagine if Terry didn't dunk it and layed it in for the win. What an awful no call. The the jump ball that Mathurin stripped away after a couple seconds, traveled, and was fouled for an and 1 in OT. The stripes stripped that game from TCU.
You are spot on. TCU's point guard was literally knocked to the floor. Apparently, the wound was superficial, so, no call.
The and one with Mathurin was unbelievable. He was tied up, the whistle blew, he ripped the ball away took a step and shot it.
The whole thing literally smells like a fix. Never going to forget how TCU got JOBBED. I had no skin in the game, however, in 62 years
of watching college basketball, I've never seen anything so blatant. Still pissed.

The refs did an awful job controlling that game as a whole - bodies were flying all over the place and then occasionally you'd get a touch foul whistle. I hate TCU but that game was just chaos. And I thought Tommy Lost was going to Howard the !!!!!! shot clock operator at one point.

The ref was right by him when he went over to the timekeeper. He should have stopped the game and got his backside back back where he should be.

I noticed that and was amazed because it seemed way over the top. That and I don't believe the broadcast addressed it.

It's a shame Arizona and Houston have to play because I would greatly like for them to both lose as soon as possible.

Southeastern Conference basketball will have a fascinating offseason. Several new coaches are joining the fray while some established coaches deal with booster unrest.
Coaching upheaval among the also-rans was followed by widespread disappointment for SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament.
Nobody is more disappointed than Kentucky fans, who watched in disbelief as No. 15 Saint Peters knocked the No. 2 Wildcats out of the tournament.
Strident fan reaction prompted coach John Calipari took to social media to ask boosters to lay off the players and direct their displeasure at him instead. He wrote:
“I feel for our team, our fans and our staff. This team deserved something good to happen because of how they worked and what great teammates they became. Our fans deserved it too.

“We were all ready for this year. This team didn’t disappoint and I remain proud and fond of each of these players. Please steer your disappointment and anger toward me. These kids did this for all of the BBN and I wish I could have dragged them over the finish line.

good article .............no punches pulled..............................the articles from the 5 reporters at the end of this article show great disdain for the veteran coaches and how terrible they underachieved this tourney year................

Buzz has the oratory skills of a 4th grader doing a book report. He's big mad about not making the tournament and now doing he's doing his own research on the NCAA Selection Committee. He's essentially calling the committee corrupt for not picking his extremely mediocre A&M team. I get what he's going for, but man, I don't think this is as good of a look as he, and apparently the school, think it is.
Is Buzz on Cameo? I'd like to give him some NIL bucks to deliver some agonizing performance reviews for staff I supervise.

Hunter Dickinson. He who last year said, “everybody hates Illinois,” while being given a share in the Big 10 championship for doing nothing, now has this to say:
https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/20...ants-then-powered-michigan-into-sweet-16.html

Next year, Illini, next year....
What was in there that you disagree with. Everything he said actually happened this year(NIT chants) and they are still alive when all but one other team is done. I'm not a big fan of the guy after his comments last year, but that article wasn't very inflammatory. I guess that Iowa might have taken a bit of a shot, but again....not sure he's off base.

He is an annoying Michigan player that likes to flap his gums a lot in press conferences. That was the point and I'm not sure how that wasn't 100 percent clear. No one said he was making up the NIT chants thing.

Agreed.
I got a chuckle out of this though.
There’s something mildly amusing about
Juan Howard, of all people…vouching for
Hunter Dickinson’s character. 😆

I didn't read the article. But I watched the press conference clip. He called out every Big Ten school that has been eliminated from the tourney and now has to watch Michigan from home. It was immature. And premature. Winning 2 games of the tournament doesn't absolve them of their train wreck season. Make it to the Elite Eight and then maybe we can talk but as of now, I still wouldn't trade our season for theirs. He's also like the 4th or 5th best center in the league.

Glad to know other school's fanbases have a rent free place to stay though.

Oh, ok. If that was the point, really no need for the article, right? That's one of those things the college basketball community just knows and is a given. Thought there was something within the article (regarding Illinois) that was being pointed out, as the post referenced his comments about, specifically, us last year. The point of the article wasn't clear to me, as it was true. Apologies. Agreed wholeheartedly about him flapping his gums too much.

Agree 100%. Not sure why he continues to go down that path outside of, like you said, he's just an immature guy who likes to hear himself talk and stir up controversy.

Sounds like a problem for the sport , not just in the B1G........The stats about # of fouls called per game is down shows up in the visual aspects of watching games now .............When I played HS basketball it was considered a non contact sport ......NON CONTACT.........no bumping down low by a big to get closer to the rim or the defender doing a kidney blow with a forearm shiver ..............

Contact on drives to the paint is now 50/50 on being called then a touch foul is called to make me scratch my head in amazement and say "" what is a foul now ? ""........................................The rugby metaphor by Coach Few is very applicable to the game we see today......

Is there an answer to the ref dilemma ?......................doubtful , other than new blood evaluating the refs and having the balls to reprimand refs for inept work ...More replays , reviews and fouls called after the fact ??......................nope...........................too many reviews now , and how do you reverse play after a foul was or was not called and ........................................

The only answer in my mind is to bring in as many new refs and discard the terrible ones over an evaluation period of time........There has to become a time when a ref is considered a detriment to the sport and retired or fired.......

It can't any worse , can it ?...............or can it ????

JMHO

edit : How bout doing something about the palming or carrying the ball by 99 % of the players dribbling the ball.......Some of these guys are pausing for almost a second when they have the ball dribbling and want to change direction........

And how bout the charge vs. block calls ???
And how bout the coaches being on the court hollering out plays ??
And how bout the lack of 3 second calls anymore.....??
And how bout ......................................................................................................?????????????????????????????????
